Can I switch from a 5 user licence to 3 without problems?

Hi all,

Can anybody please help with my situation?

Last year I bought a 5 users licence for Norton Internet Security. I ended up only using it on 4 computers, and this year I'll only need it for 3 computers.  So I have purchased  a 3 user licence disc from a local store.

The software has updated as the year progressed and the 3 computers I wish to renew for all seem to be running the latest version. It expires in 5 days. I imagine that it would actually be more up to date than the version on the disk, which will need to download current updates.

Can I just continue to use the currently installed software and renew it for another year simply by entering the code on the back of the new package? Or will that cause problems because the original was a 5 user licence and the new one is only for 3?

Uninstalling all three old versions and re-installing from the new disc seems like a lot of work that could be unnecessary, but I don't want to stuff something up because of a difference in the licence.

Could anybody please advise me on how it works and what I should do to avoid problems?

Thanks,

Chris

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a reply.  :smileyhappy:

That's what I was hoping to hear!  I seem to recall that when I installed the original one it told me how many licences that I had left as I activated each new one. So I imagine that it will do something similar and basically show me that it's counting down from 3 this time, once it's seen the new Product Key.

They are currently showing the version number that you quoted there, so it should be fine. As you suggested, I'll leave for another day or two and then put the key in.  I had rather assumed that one consequence of using a new disk, as opposed to renewing the old licence online, would be that the subscription would start from the time I put the new numbers in (or did a fresh instal) instead of starting on the previous expiry date. So your suggestion seems to confirm that too.

Thanks again.

Chris

Hi Chris

You can also go to your Norton Account at www.mynortonaccount.com and check the status of your registered software, including the number of activations left.

You are right that if you renew your subscription then the new one will add to the days currently remaining but if you use a new key then you will lose the remaining days (speaking to Customer Support usually ends up with them restoring the days lost though).
