I've been using Norton Internet Security withouth any issues for over a month now. Today, all of a sudden the Norton screen pops up and says there was a problem with Live Update, please reinstall the product. So I uninstall Internet Security, download the latest version, and reinstall it.
During the installation, it installs, downloads the latest virus definitions, then starts "Installing Drivers", at which it then changes to "Uninstalling" then "Compressing Error Log". After this, it leaves me at a screen saying "Install did not finish. A cleanup was performed on your computer to complete the installation. Click Restart now and try again."
I restart the computer, try again, and get the same results. I looked through the support site, which led me to the Norton Removal tool. I ran this, restarted, reinstalled Internet Security, and still got the same results.
I ran the removal tool again, manually deleted all temp files, all Norton and Symantec folders from the Program Files, and Common Files, and Windows user account directories, and all Norton and Symantec registry keys. I restarted again, then tried reinstalling, but still had the same problem.
I logged on to the tech support chat. The technician walked me through the same steps I already had performed with the removal tool. He then had me download the Norton Support tools so he could use my mouse and keyboard to troubleshoot the problem himself. I watched him do the same thing I already had done, use the Removal tool, delete all Norton and Symantec folders and registry keys, but he wasn't able to fix the problem. He told me he was sorry and that he'd forward the case to his manager.
This is obviously an issue with the updated version distributed today. I am using Windows Vista x64 with SP1 installed.
Has anyone experienced this issue or have any information about it?
