Can not add the verification code to my site

Hi,

I am desperatly seeking some help trying to find out how to contact this "safe web team" I cannot get my site verified because I can't add the verification code to the root therefore I apparently need a metatag to insert into my keyword section of my site.  Yes I am becoming quite frustrated with this issue .  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Mackie and welcome!

You should have received the preformatted meta tag in your email confirmation from Safe Web. If you do not have that or cannot upload meta tags to your site, then an alternate method to verify ownership is to add the Norton Safe Web authentication code to your keywords tag which I see you have in place.

Use your site building program to edit your keywords. Copy and paste the authentication code from your email registration, (the 128 character alphanumeric code) into your keywords tag on your main page. Be sure it is separated from the other entries with a comma.

Example: poker, matching bonus, jackpot, zp_4srd6nros....(your unique 128 character code)

(Norton SW File Content is highlighted in blue text for this example)

Although this method will not allow for the automated verification, it should assist the Safe Web team in manually verifying your site.

Let me know when you have completed this step and I will check that the code is properly located.

Hi Phil

Can you enlighten me please. How can someone not be able to add a meta tag line to the html code of their home page anbd yet be able to add authentication code to their keywords tag. Does the later not also require access?

Yes, I'd be happy to enlighten you.

Not everyone is using a site building program which allows direct access to the site structure.

Many website building programs are "semi-automated" allowing a user to enter information into dialog boxes and the design program then generates and places the code. The user has no direct access to the code or root directory.

For example,

The following information is based upon content (.pdf) from the Serif WebPlus X2 site:

To set or edit keywords for a page:

1) Open your home page in the editing program.

2) Click Edit, then Page Properties.

3) Click the Search tab.

4) Enter your keywords.

This program limits the user to entering only the content for keywords, not a new meta tag.

Here is some information based upon content posted by Ranjeet Mishra, MSFT, Support Engineer on this MS Office Live FAQ web page

To set or edit keywords for a page:

• Click on Design Site (from middle of the page) and click on Edit pages from drop down menu.
• Click on Page Properties on the right top corner.
• Click on Search Engine Optimization Tab.
• Add the details in the boxes given and select Apply.

Again, this program limits the user to entering only the content for keywords, not a new meta tag.

So, as you can see many programs make it very easy to build a website using templates and dialog boxes, but limit direct access to the site structure itself. I hope that helps.

Hello Again Phil,

I tried to return an email to you regarding my website verification, but perhaps it did not go through.

I still seem to be having problems with this verification process.  I did as you requested and entered it into the key words, but nothing seems to be happening.  Site -spinfreeandwin.com.  Please HELP.

Mackie.

Hello Mackie.

Adding the code into keywords will not allow for the automated verification process.

However, the authentication code in your keywords meta tag is properly placed and I shall notify the Safe Web team who will manually verify site ownership. Allow them a day or two to respond back to you in this thread.

Once ownership has been verified, your site will be queued for the rating evaluation.

Be sure the code remains in place until ownership is verified. Leaving the code in the meta tag will not affect your site or the visitor's experience.

And, I do not work for Symantec. I am a volunteer member here, so there is no email address to contact me.

Hi Mackie,

Thanks for adding the auth file on your website. I have verified owership of your website 'spinfreeandwin.combased on the metatag.

We have queued these sites for analysis, soon new rating will be reflected in safeweb.norton.com.

Hello Phil & Rajesh.

Thanks to both of you for your prompt replies and help with what seemed to be a complete disaster.  As you can can probably tell I am quite new at this.

Thanks so much
