Cannot get into adjustments under settings in Norton anti-virus?

In the main screen for norton i can click settings and get into the settings page, but cannot make any adjustments as needed for example under anti-virus,firewall,anti- spam etc.   These header text is in red, while they should be blue to get into the actual settings. This happens when i sign in as a standard user and has been going on ever since i installed norton more than two year ago.i need to get into these settings so i can add some particular malaware files the the scan exclusion list. Thanks for your help! yes i can get into the settings when i switch over to the administrator acct.  But i cannot add the malware files under the scan exclusion list as it is not listed under the driver file here. It is only listed under driver files in my standard acct.  Help!!

Hi Redfordl,

Depending on which version of the product you are using, there should be an option in the Miscellaneous or General Settings to allow non-administrator access to the Norton settings:

send of jive . Unfortunately i have a version provided to me by infinity(comcast) and this (main page) is not set up like yours so i cannot get into general  and hit non-administrator. Enclosed find attachment of my main page.  Thanks!! any suggestions.

I cannot upload my attachment as it is in .png form, sorry.  I am thinking of  uninstalling  and reinstalling norton to see if this won"t correct this situation. what do you think?

Hi Redford,

Do not uninstall and reinstall, I'll have an answer for you in a bit, I'm working on a screenshot for you.

Speaking of screenshots, here is the info needed to add a screenshot on the forum:

From main page of Norton Security Suite, Settings > Administrative Settings > Scroll down and under Product Security > you'll find  Non-Admins access to Settings.  Addtional information can be found by clicking on the Queston Mark opposite the Product security heading. Be sure to click Apply after changing it.

Hope this helps.

This isn"t presently the problem, but i did un-install  and re-install norton(sorry),but this did not solve the problem. Now on my standard acct. i cannot open norton from any of the logos. The shortcuts do not function.  norton found two error problems an error 8504, and error 104 and told me to run the power eraser program.  The auto-fix program in norton  could not fix the problem so it said to use power eraser. I promise i will not run power eraser, until i get further instructions from you.  Thanks for your patience with me.

I opened my computer this morning  and lo and behold an early christmas present as i was able to get into norton security no problem!!  Anyway i will be sending off the screen picture of the main one for norton. Thanks!!

Hi Redfordl,

Am I to understand "opened my computer" to mean you booted up after the system was shut down?

Amazing what a reboot can do for a system.

Hi Yank, didn"t mean to yank your chain( a pun) ,but i just solved my access problem into norton from my standard acct.  I entered it through  my administrative acct. and under product security i enabled access to non-administrative acct.  and        this solved my problem.  I appreciate your help  and Have A Merry Christmas  and A Healthy &  Prosperous New Year.!!!

Hi Redfordl,

You can yank my chain anytime - as long as you got your problem sorted out.   :smileywink:

Now have a great holiday season and we'll still be here in the New Year for anything else that may come up!
