Norton 360 has clobbered the entire folder of a game server I was hosting due to a false positive detection as Trojan.Gen.9. I've tried to restore and exclude the files, but due to a long-standing bug with your quarantine system's code, I'm completely unable to and it sticks me in an endless loop. Example here, with me holding the enter-key to try and force past it.
I believe this is due to folders included in the quarantine causing some sort of deadlock in the restoration code. This is not the first time this has happened to me (but it is the first time with so many important, not-easily-replaceable files), and it's also not the first time this issue has shown up: support threads with this exact same issue dating back all the way to 2012 seem to end in essentially a shrugging of the shoulders from the support team, which is deeply disappointing.
A lot of time and effort was spent on installing and configuring that server program and I'm this close to uninstalling Norton forever and begrudgingly setting up the server again from scratch. Please enlighten me as to how I may fix this issue and get my files back.
Norton 360 v.22.20.1.69
Windows 10 Enterprise x64 v1607
Do you have fast startup enabled in your power settings? If so disable it and reboot. Check whether that makes any difference. That setting will keep data from a 100% release on restart. I also should point out that your version of Windows 1607 is no longer supported by Microsoft, I'm sure you are already aware of it. Missing updates/upgrades which Norton has compensated for, colaborating with MS could be a part of the issue as Norton has kept Redstone ready since version 1809. Your Windows version COULD possibly be causing compatibility issues in of itself.
Hello jlord. I'm not sure you can recover those files after deletion by Norton. Recovering the computer to an earlier restore point will be the most likely scenario. Did you also have backup enabled and included this directory in that backup set? If so look at the below screenshot before restoring from your backup set.
That being said, does your install of Norton include the "Data Protector" tab in settings>antivirus? If so please check the settings I have pointed to in the screenshot. Protected Folders can NOT be set to exclude the defaults however folders, IE drives can be added. Add the drive and subfolders to be excluded. Protected Files types may be a possible exclusion for you. Completely disabling Data Protector may also be an alternative once you have done a system restore.
