Cannot use Media Center on XBox due to Norton Firewall

I understand there are many posts on this topic and believe me, I have read most.

Here is the issue.

I have what is called Norton Security Suite. It is provided through Comcast. This is all the info I have as to what version it is:

Product Name: Norton Security Suite

  • Version: 4.3.0.5
  • Serial Number: 123
  • Media SKU: 20999865
  • Current SKU: 20999865
  • Family SKU: 0000000
  • End Point ID: {02a11803-3c57-492d-bb4c-fdc4ff3a5672}
  • OEM Partner Name: 123
  • Vendor Name: Comcast
  • Norton Add-On Pack: 123

I cannot find ANY support ANYWHERE for this.

I can play my XBox 360 just fine online. But when I try to stream movies to it, I can only do so by disabling the NSS firewall.

I am very computer savvy and am surprised at the amount of time I have spent looking through this NSS to find how to make an exception for the XBox.

As far as I am concerned, or know, there is none.

I run WinXP SP3 with Win Media Center 11.x

I have tried everything I can think of under the firewall settings, and elsewhere.

Does anyone have ANY idea how to go about this?

I use a Belkin router. It is not the problem due to the fact the XBox is wide open in it and, again, can play multiplayer online.

It is definitely the Norton firewall.

I have spent an inordinate amount of time scouring the net for how to fix this. It just seems not many people have the EXACT same setup as I do, trying to do the EXACT same thing.

If any further system info, etc is needed, I will be more than happy to post.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or whatever your cup of tea is,

    Shawn

    Hi Dashodell,

See if this Norton / Comcast KB article helps:

Configuring Norton Security Suite for Xbox

Computer savvy.... Just dumb in general.

    I got it.

I had read that article, but on this Comcast deal the setup is a bit different.

So, I missed an icon not realizing it was active. Its not listed as anything therefore I ASSUMED it had something to do with the main pc on the network. I just had to go into it and give it Full Trust. On that link it reads:

"Click the Xbox device name in the network map."

I was looking for the word XBox. It doesnt say that. Its just an icon that said "device" or something similiar.

I dont use lol much, but LOL.

I feel like such a goon. Im just gonna blame it on being too busy with the kids at Christmas time :smileywink:

And SendOfJive, just you posting that link DID make me read it again and try the Network Security Map again.

    Thanks a million!

    Hi Dashodell,

You're welcome.  Have a Merry Christmas.

    Thank you, friend. Enjoy.
