Cant access allowed websites

So far I'm having luck with CBS.com and NWCN.com however I'm asking today May 20th 2011; was there an update to Norton Safety Minder; because one of my OTHER sites that I have saved in my ALLOWED sites is being blocked by a category :(

OK I can view it again; thats weird I dont get it.

Its like it allowed me to view it to begin with, then a few second later when I clicked a link on the page it said not viewable.  So then I went and re clicked the page I had to begin with-still gave me an error.  But now a couple hrs later and it lets me view it again; HA!

Next time this happens, I'll be sure to wait the 2hrs before I post

So remember how even though I had nwcn.com set to be on my 'allowed lists' that you had to have me add like thumbnails.whichever to make the whole page work?

Well a similiar issue happened last night. I had www.hulu.com added to my list but when I tried to watch an episode of a TV show I ended up having to add an additional URL so I could watch :(

ltolman,

It's probably because the show is actually not hosted by hulu.com (the url to the show is not  hulu).  It sounds to me you've figured it out and made it work.  But if you want me to check into it, please give me some details on the TV show, like name and how you access it (which page do you go to watch the show).

Thanks,

Katie

Well I went here: http://www.hulu.com/browse/alphabetical/tv

ltolman,

I checked several of the tv shows on the website using the url you provided.  I was able to access them.  What is the message you get that tells you why you are not able to access the tv shows?  What is the name of  the TV show you try to access?  For example, I clicked on the link to the show "100 questions" on the page after clicking the URL  you provided.

Thanks,

Katie

Wow what happened to the rest of my message?  Just a minute while I compile your data

Okay I removed static dot hulu dot com and also I removed huluim dot com as well.

Even though hulu.com is on my 'accepted websites' when I visit hulu.com first off no pictures are shown; every picture/video on its homepage is with an X; as I loaded it up my Norton Safety Minder said that

Your house rules do not allow you to go to static.huluim.com; it is considered to be advertising.

So I go into my account and add 'static.huluim.com' to my list and refresh the page and the advertisement loads up (flash) as it now scrolls thru different TV/Movie/Commercial advertisements for me to click.

Meanwhile for some odd reasons the picture icons for the videos on the homepage still isnt showing; give me a minute.........okay bypassing that part; now search for ''Rookie Blue" and hit enter; good........now the icons for the TV shows are working; I can see them and I probably can play them but whats this......???

Yep Norton Safety Minder says that assets.huluim.com isnt gonna load because of 'advertising' is being blocked.

So I add huluim.com to my 'allowed websites' refresh Safety Rules and now when I refresh Hulu's page I get a message about 'Googleadservices' is considered to be advertising but thats okay because technically I'm sure i can watch TV shows :)

PS I refreshed this page after hitting submit; my 7 paragraphed message is still in tact recorded at this time (see time stamp)

I can see that this is a real problem. Since sites that offer videos to watch are very very dependent upon advertising and advertising sites. sites like these won't serve their content without advertising, and since you have configured the client to block advertising, this seems to be the crux of the problem.

it would probably be much easier to allow the advertising categor for this particular account

Is this an account that a child is using? You keep mentioning that is is you that is visiting these sites, not the child. Is this your account or your child's account? if it's a parents windows account, then safety minder doesn't even have to be enabled.

is blocking the advertising category a significant concern for you?

Andrew D.

ummm correct. This is my acct; there is no child. I cant remember why I even 'started' to block advertising in the first place.  But I just unchecked that off now.

So as you said; most video sites require advertising so hopefully this should solve my issue.  On the other hand; well outside of re reading page 1 til now (which I dont have time to do right now) there might be another site that still has some issues. We will see

Thanks again; like I said I unchecked Advertising for the moment.

Now I remember why I blocked "Advertising"; it was for the random pop up from Netflix.

First of all; I'm already a Netflix subscriber; so why bother with the pop up?

Secondly I have pop up enabled within Internet Explorer so why am I still getting that pop up?

So I thought by enabling 'Advertising' it would make it go away; which it did.  So that is why I kept 'Advertising' checked.

So is it something that Symantec is looking into (this thread?)

Like I said  if hulu.com is on the approved lists; why wouldnt huluim.com be on there as well; its pretty close to hulu afterall.

I mean thats like saying 'add larrytolman.com' to your list but guess what advertising.larrytolman.com will not work in which that whole website hardly works because you have 'advertising' blocking.  I guess I just dont understand :(

So its been a while and I'm wondering if the 'advertisement' portion has been blocked? See the last 5 posts to understand what I mean.

I'll re enable it to see what I come up with.

HA you know whats funny but WEIRD. I

hmmm what happened to my previous post? to tell you what I did write:

I was playing a PC game "Deus Ex Human Revolution"; as the game was loading up, I kept getting Norton safety minders about advertisment blocking.

So I had to disable Advertisements again just so I can play the PC game.

ltolman,

Do you see any links or images on the page and they are categorized as Advertising?  If so, it's possible that the page is blocked as the category of the links or images are blocked.

Thanks,

Katie

I'll give you a picture and the URL being affected.

Otherwise no there isnt anything.

Here is the URL being affected:

http://adsrv10.doublefusion.com/adserverWS/AdInfoWS.amx/GetAdInfoXml

Perhaps theres a file in the gaming folder that contains that????

Heres the picture:
