Can't access certain websites

Hi, I installed Norton Internet security 2009 today on a new computer. It installed fine and is scanning. Problem is, I can't access hotmail, scotiabank and other sites. I can get on Facebook, but can't use any applications there. When I try to use these websites I get a blank white page with "done" on the toolbar on the bottom. I do not get any error message or notification from norton. the pages are simply not displaying. I'm new to Norton. I tried turning off the firewall, and Norton all together but still no luck. I figure it has to be the Norton as everything worked fine until I installed it. I'm hoping I didn't just waste my money buying this if I have to uninstall it. Can anyone offer any help?

Was there any other trial software like McAfee that came preloaded on your computer?  Have you checked your programs to see what is running?  Windows Defender, One Care?

Hi Kimmie,

 

Can you check your security settings in IE (Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab) and make sure the Internet Zone and Trusted Zone are set to their defaults?  If you still have trouble viewing these pages and they are in the Internet Zone, try adding them to the Trusted Zone.

Are you using any other security software? in particular, another firewall?

 

Also, do you have a router for your internet? if so, what router?

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback. I treid everything that was suggested but nothing worked. I finally tried to uninstall Norton but that just messed the computer up more. Norton wouldn’t even let me type anything here in reply. I just system restored mycomputer back to earlier time before I had installed it and everything now works again. I’m afraid to reinstall it, but I spent $80 on the disk and can’t return it. Frustrating!!
