Can't access my website

I've installed Norton 360, but now can't access my business website. Every time I try to access it, I get bounced out to my home page. It doesn't matter what browers I use, i.e., IE, foxfire, or chrome.

How do can I make an exception to the block rule? I unstalled it another computer in my office and still can't access the website.

Help!!!!!

Wow, a lot of that is a foreign language to me, but I give you what I can...

My main computer is running Windows XP,  N360 4.0.  I'm not sure on the the 32 or 64 bit. My laptop is running Vista, N360 4.0.  Again, not sure of the 32 or 64 bit stuff.

My business website runs on a friend's business server and I manage it through Wordpress.

I did some fixes on  blog entry, but when I went to check the changes via Firefox, I get bounced off the website, Norton saying it isn't a safe website. Tried via Chrome and IE, same problem. Go to the website and get bounced off.

Same thing for my laptop. I completely uninstalled Norton (settings and everything) from my laptop, but still can't get to the website.

Didn't have this problem until I installed Norton.

Sorry, forgot to answer the connectivity problem. Just using u-verse.

Hi akoortman,

Thanks for the additional information. This sounds pretty strange. Is it only this one website that you have problems getting to or others as well?

Thanks

Allen

Yes, so far this is the only site I've had problems with.

My daughter can access the site via her Netbook (she doesn't have Norton installed, but she does use the same home network as my other computers), but I can't access the site on either the desktop running Norton or the laptop that I uninstalled Norton on.

Color me very frustrated...

HI akoortman,

Thanks for the update. Do or did either of the computers with the problem have any other anti-virus or anti-malware, etc software installed on them besides N360?

You mentioned you uninstalled N360 from your laptop. What anti-virus protection are you using currently?

To ensure this is the problem we will probably want to use the Norton Removal tool on the laptop but I don't want to ask you to go through with that until I have a little more detail about any other anti-virus software, etc.

If you previously had other anti-virus installed before installing N360, did you remove it first? And if so how did you remove it? Did you use just it's standard uninstall or did you use some sort of removal tool?

Thanks much

Allen

On the laptop... previously ran Webroot Spy Sweeper. Uninstalled using provided uninstall program from  Webroot. I uninstalled before installing Norton 360. Am currently not running any anti-virus program on the laplop.

On the desktop... previously ran McAfee Virus. Uninstalled using provided uninstall program from McAfee. I uninstalled before installing Norton 360.

Now what?

Hi akoortman,

Thanks very much for the update.

Though I understand why you have this situation, I am concerned about you not having anti-virus protection on your laptop while accessing the Internet. This is inherently dangerous and I don't recommend it.

That said, regarding the Webroot Spy Sweeper I have a few questions more. Did you have just the Webroot Spy Sweeper or the Webroot Anti-virus with Spy Sweeper? The Spy Sweeper by itself offers spyware protection only which does not leave you fully protected. Please see ths link.

Also, any time you are replacing an anti-virus product with a completely different software (especially a different vendor) it is highly recommended to run a special removal tool (similar to Symantec's Norton removal tool) instead of just the typical uninstall offered by the program.

This is because anti-virus software binds itself very tightly into your OS and the standard uninstall many times does not fully remove everything and does cause compatibility problems many times when you install a completely different anti-virus program.

I'm not readily seeing a special removal tool on their website but I would suggest you inquire about this through their technical support.

Let's start with your laptop and see if we can get things working for you there and then we can move on to the desktop.

Given that you had problems which prompted you to uninstall N360 I would recommend the following.

These steps include running a scan with the free version of Malware Bytes which I am recommending since you have been connected to the Internet without protection.

Each step that requires downloading from the Internet, I highly recommend doing this from a computer which has Anti virus protection.

1) Please disconnect from the Internet since you have no AV protection currently.

2) As mentioned above please check with Webroot techinical support and see if they have a removal tool to ensure that everything related to your old software is fully cleaned up.

3) Please run the Norton Removal tool (instructions below).

4) Please download the free version of Malware Bytes and run a full scan. Instructions are below. Please download this to another computer which has anti-virus protection and then transfer it to your laptop and install.

5) Reinstall N360, connect back to the Internet and download all updates.

Check for the problem. If the problem returns at this point, please do not uninstall N360 and we will troubleshoot the issue and try to get this working for you.

Did you use Norton Removal Tool for uninstalling Norton 360?

Can you boot into Safe Mode with Networking, and check whether you can access it?

Since you have already removed the Norton program and the problem still persists, I don't think that it was blocked by Norton.

Yogesh

Well, I bought a new computer that came with Norton anti-virus as a trial mode. Before I could tell my husband not to start the trial, he did.

I can't access my website on the new computer. I don't know if Norton has anything to do with it because I didn't get a chance to try to access the website before he activated Norton.

At this point, I'm guessing the problem is with my website.

akoortman,

Did you try the suggestion from allen to uninstall using the norton removal tool and then reinstall and check for the issue.
