There is no way I can add an individual file (exe) to Sonar for exclusion. When I try to look for the file it's not listed and even if I choode a random file for a test it displays that the path is incorrect.
I've tried to add it as a trusted file from the context drop down box,, but it doesn't work.
Please advise.
Hi,
NIS -> Settings -> Antivirus and SONAR Exclusions -> Configure -> down arrow next to the word Add -> select files -> click on the icon at the end of the box -> scroll around until you find the file(s) you want to exclude -> highlight -> click OK -> add more files or back out of the feature.
Keep us posted
Are you entering the entire file path into the exclusion list?
Thanks for your reply.
The problem is if I do what you recommend, I can't find the file, even though I know it's there and can be found with explorer.
Please advise.
I've tried both ways, entering the full path and getting the message that it's wrong or trying to find the file in the drop down box, but as I explained I can't find it, although it's there as evidenced by using explorer.

Hi,
Would this be a hidden or system file?
Thanks
Hi,
I have my folder settings to view hidden files, that's why I can see it with Explorer, I really don't know if it'sa system file.
Is there a setting to see hidden files in this part of Norton?
I didn't mention that once and again when I get the message popup that the file is being processed and quarantined, it doesn't help to choose restore and exclude from future scans---the same thing happens..
Please advise.
What happens if they consider it a real threat, can't I exclude it?

Hi Arturo,
If it is a 'real' threat then I doubt that you really want it on your computer. Real threats are viruses and other forms of malware which can do damage to your software.

Thank you for your reply.
Regarding the file, virus Total has deemed it clean, as well as Virus Scan, so I'm confortable with it..
Nobody has answered, why I can't find the file in the drop down menu in Sonar , exclusions, although I find it using Explorer.
If it's in Explorer, it exists, but why can't I find it and exclude it with NIS?

What dropdown menu do you mean? The dropdown in "Signatures to exclude from all detections" is a list of threat signatures, not files on your PC. If you are configuring "Items to exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence detection," you need to enter the full path manually.
Hi,
I'll try to be more detailed:
settings/computer/terms to exclude from autoprotect,sonar/configure/add/files that leads you to a drop down box where you can choose the disk and folder where the file are. Another way is to write down the whole path manually as you sugest.
If I choose the former, believe it or not, the file is not there, although I know it is because using explorer I see it ( please look at the image), it's named Kmsserver.exe
Considering the latter option, if I put the full path I get "the path you selected to include does not exist"
Please advise.
What file path do you think it is in?
Keep in mind that if it under a user folder the actual path is different then the apparent path browsing from "Documents".
But it's under C:\Windows isn't it?
Dave
Hi,
This is the exact path: C:\Windows\System32\kmsserver.exe
In order to verify the path, I chose randomly another file from the same folder and replaced "kmsserver" and no error message regarding the file.
I'm sure somebody can figue this out!
If your unable to "see" it in the exclusion browser, it has to be due to a view setting or file permission problem.
No offence intended on the following, I just want to make sure your aware of something.
When you said virus total "deemed it clean" if it really was detected but not as a virus, that does not mean it's safe to use.
I say that because the file im thinking of should have a signed security certificate and should not be detected by Sonar.
Sorry If I'm totally mistaken
Dave
