Can't block Bing.com or any other website

While testing Norton Online Family, I installed the Safety Monitor on my family PC that has 5 user accounts. The PC has the following configuration:

  • Windows XP – SP3
  • Internet explorer (ver. 8)
  • Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite (ver. 80_400_020)

I created 4 accounts for my children, with the following done :

  • Web supervision 'Settings->Web' is turned on under Web Site Settings for all of them.
  • I entered http://www.bing.com to block the web site, and clicked 'Add To List' and made sure to 'Update Settings' as well.
  • After updating the settings in the web portal, from the home PC, I right-clicked the NSM client icon and selected 'Update House Rules' to get the most recent House Rules.
  • I also rebooted the PC several times.

Nevertheless, the Bing website continues to open, while other features are working fine, such as, ' Social' and ' Time'.

Why can’t I block the Bing website ?

I think Bing is covered, check this out:

This may be an obvious question, but can you make sure you are logged in as one of the kids being protected. I have seen this several times during testing where someone testing was not logged into a monitored account.

Even unmonitored accounts show the "dog paw print" icon in the task tray. In fact if you float over that icon it will tell you if that account is one that is monitored.

Matt

Yes I was logged in to the monitored accounts.

Btw Google searches are also not logged.

Something is clearly wrong with your system, I just did a block on Bing.com and it worked fine.

Google searches not working doesn't seem right either.

What browser are you using? Can you give us more information about your client system?

Hi sherif,

I just sent you a Private Message.  You should be able to see the PM icon, an envelope image on the upper right hand corner of the screen when you logged into the forum.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Sherif,

We've looked into this, and we've seen instances where filters at the corporate- or Internet-Service-Provider block access to our ratings data.  Although we'r enot 100% certain that this is the issue that's causing your problem, we do have an update that's in testing right now and will release soon.  We're also working on a fix that will allow us to log events for which we have no ratings data.  We'll give ou an update as soon as we have a more accurate ETA for the fix.

Thanks,

Jody

Hi Sherif,

We have just released the update for Window Client with build number 1.1.0.21, where some changes have been made to the way we communicate with server that does the ratings.  Please check out your activity page to see if the new update has corrected the issue.

We appreciate your valuable feedback and patience.

Thanks,

Katie
