There seems to be some occasional scuttlebutt in the forums about not being to be able to delete 2 registry entries labeled NortonAntiVirus.MediaStatusSink and NortonAntiVirus.MediaStatusSink.1. This is not a question, a rebuttal or a complaint. It is simply a help to others who may be searching for this. However I DO wish to allay the fears of those who use the Ccleaner program who may come across warnings and admonitions for using such programs. Maximum PC magazine has touted its use for some time and I personally have used it to fix issues where I had all but thrown up my hands in dispare. HOWEVER, there IS a basis for such warnings. ANY program or set of instructions that involve editing the registry file in Windows should be approached with EXTREME CAUTION! Even though I personally trust Ccleaner and keep it as a valuable tool in my cyber-kit that does not belay the fact that it should be used with caution. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that if you don't know that much about the workings of computers that you should stay away from it and other such programs as a rule. It's the safe bet. Now...having said that...let's move on to the issue at hand...
Those that run the registry cleaner function of Ccleaner sometimes run across an issue where they cannot "clean" two entries titled "NortonAntiVirus.MediaStatusSink" and "NortonAntiVirus.MediaStatusSink.1". I have no idea why this happens and I do not want to get into that discussion at all. This is the soution only. It is safe. Here it is:
If you run across this issue simply disable the Norton Product Tamper Protection feature under the Product Security section of your program's settings. Then, run your scan again, "fix" the 2 entries that appear and then re-enable the protection feature. Those entries should not show up in future scans.
I hope this helps others looking for this in the future. Again, this is not meant to be disparaging to Symantec in any way. They have a fine product. I just wanted to post this in order to provide a clear and concise answer to those who might be looking for it in the future. Take care all! :)
