My laptop has died and the backup ( done weekly) is on an external hard drive. I don't need a full restore as i have bought a new laptop. I have been using window 10 on the old laptop with windows live mail. I have found the option within the backup to restore emails but all it brings up in a C:\\restore folder, is a .png image. No emails. How do i find them? Have they even been backed up? There appear to be no .eml files on my laptop even in appdata folder
Thanks for answering. I’ve already tried this, making hidden folders visible. I can find the folder but no emails. Think i need to do a chat with Norton. Thank you both for your help
In the above post "logon" would be your username.
I'm pretty sure "appdata" is a hidden folder, you may need to change your systems view settings to see it.

Thanks for help but as my C drive is my new computer there are no emails stored from the dead computer. I have the old hard drive in a caddy and have done as you suggested with F as the drive letter rather than C (F being the hard drive in the caddy) but no luck there either
The WLMail folder is found under C:\Users\ logon\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail so if you can open the backup & search there.
