All of a sudden a couple of days ago, my online backup does not work. Get a screen that says they will check it out, but it has been 3-4 days. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but this just got me another copy of the same conmputer on my screen, but I still cannot backup or delete one of the now 2 computer icon copies. The original computer log button will not work, but the reinstalled computer icon log button does work. It says that all my backup attempts have failed with errro code A8989. Very discouraging that this came out of nowhere on such an important program. What is going on as I feel the problem is likley on Symantec's end, but maybe not???
Hello nginpa2000
I've had engineering check your account and it is currently showing fully active. There was a unplanned maintenance event that surfaced yesterday however that explains why you were getting that error message. The problem that resulted in that event had issues which led up to it. Can you advise if you are still seeing it as of this morning?
Everything seems to be working fine now!
BTW, I did install a Java update before the Backup porgram started working correctly, but that may have been just a coincidence? Thanks for the interest.
Peer coincidence. Java may impact web functionality in some cases but wouldn't cause the 8989 error.
I have been receiving this same error message all day today (3/17/13). And this comes less than two months after having to reinstall NOBU when the program failed to backup for nearly one month. This service is becoming far less dependable than represented.
You're posting about having an issue a month ago without providing any details as to the errors you were seeing. What specifically was happening a month ago?
As for the 8989 error - that's a maintenance error. If it surfaced, without a sticky being posted, it means it was unplanned. There have been quite a lot of back-end enhancements going on the last few months. Those have greatly enhanced the service and resolved many of the issues that were prevalent prior. If I have more info I can see what the circumstances were for why this was surfacing on 3/17.
I continue to get the error code when trying to run a back up to NOBU. I'm not sure what other details you require other than this error code. This problem has been ongoing on for 3 days now.[Removed]
I am having the same problem on this same computer when attempting a separate backup from Norton 360 although the error code (for three days) advises the backup can't be performed due to maintenance on my account.
As an additional problem, I have been able to backup from Norton 360 on two other computers, however, neither of these backups appear when I log onto my Norton account to attempt to download files saved to those backups to another computer.

On 3/21, I was able to make separate backups using both Noton 360's backup feature and NOBU from the computer where I have been having problems, however, backups from my other computers (which use the same Norton account login) were not displayed on the main NOBU menu.
Today, the backups from the other computers were displayed on the main NOBU menu, but NOBU had a backup error with code A2221.
Norton seems to be having chronic server issues. Please advise.
