I am wondering if there is a way to make a Homegroup work without uninstalling NIS 2010.
I am trying to set up a Homegroup with my 2 computers: 1 with Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit), 1 with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit).
Both computers have NIS 2010.
I have opened the Network Security Map in NIS and set the Trust level to Full Trust. I have done this on both computers.
I have tried creating Homegroups with both computers, but when I create aHomegroup on 1, the other can't see it, so I don't get the option to join the Homegroup.
Do I have to uninstall NIS on both computers, set up the Homegroup, then reinstall NIS 2010, or is there a way to set things up without uninstalling?

I have a wireless home network currently with Vista Ultimate on my main desktop + 2 laptops, one with Vista Home Premium 32 bit and the other with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and no problems. Also have a shared network aware printer which is connected directly to the router and a couple of other misc. devices. No problems across the board, so I know that NIS should work in this environment just fine. The Windows 7 laptop was added after NIS was already set up and it pretty much worked out of the box.
I would also recommend checking your router configuration closely. Is your router firewall turned on? If so I would recommend turning it off for a test also.
When I first upgraded to wireless N network from G I had purchased a Cisco router where the firewall was causing all sorts of problems with connectivity. I found out lo and behold I could not turn off the router's firewall (directly from Cisco support!) so I ended up going with a Netgear router and had no problems at all.
It is OK to use a router firewall along with a single firewall on your computer but this does illustrate that routers are sometimes prone to causing connectivity issues because of the built in firewall.
As a test you could also try temporarily setting up your computers through a wired connection into the router. If this works then you know it has something to do with the wireless aspect of the network and it gives us an area to concentrate on.
The troubleshooter may just be responding to a firewall block and assuming that Norton is the culprit. Both machines should be listed in the router settings. It should identify each machine by the MAC address. You may have to check with your ISP if you are unable to llist more than one device. I had to upgrade my service before I could use multiple devices.
