I have a desktop and laptop running quite similar setups including NIS. These are powerpoint show files. When I click on the link on my desktop, it downloads and opens in Powerpoint as a presentation. When I do the exact same thing on my laptop, it gives me an error saying that Powerpoint can't read the file. The details say
"The presentation cannot be opened. Your antivirus program may prevent you from opening the presentation. To fix this problem, make sure your antivirus program is current and working correctly. If the problem persists and the presentation is from someone that you trust, turn off your antivirus program, and then try to open the presentation again. If you do this, make sure you turn on your antivirus program again after you open the presentation."
Disabling NIS in fact does not allow me to open the file. I've tried moving it to another folder and opening it directly from PP. No dice. First PP says it corrupted and would I like to fix it. When I say yes, it then says it can't access it and gives me the same error as above. This is my website and the file in question is on my computer. I can open that copy just fine. I even re-uploaded it to my website, but the same thing happens. I don't have problems with pdfs and I have been able to download various programs or program updates and run those with no problem.
And again, when I download this on my desktop, it works just as it should.
I ran into some problems with the laptop a month or so ago - blue screen etc on my laptop. I had to roll back. Then I got a bunch of MS updates again. I downloaded Search and Destroy to run a different application against the laptop to check for viruses or malware that perhaps got by NIS. It didn't find anything and I removed the program (so it is not running alongside NIS, at least I dont think so!). I can't really say this problem dates back to that occurrence, but I know several months ago it was working OK.
I have no idea where to start. I'm here in the NIS forum since the error keeps referring to antivirus, but as I said, turning it off didn't make a difference.
I'd appreciate any suggestions of where to start with this!
Thanks
Tom
