Can't Open exe. files in Windows7 Ultimate 64

Started my computer today, and I suddenly had a whole bunch of pop-ups telling me Windows can't open these files with the exe extension, so in other words I can't open anything. I can't open my Norton Internet Security, but was able to scan my C drive by right clicking on it and Scan with IS. It didn't find anything. If a file has an exe extension, it won't open, so how am I going to get into my registry, or run any malware programs???......................HELP!!

I fixed it myself, I downloaded and ran RogueKiller, rkill and Malwarebytes and they found the virus. Why are free programs fixing a problem that my paid for Anti Virus Program is not catching???

If you could tell us what malware was found we may be able to offer some explanation.

Hello

I'm glad that you were able to get it cleaned up. Please watch the computer to make sure that it doesn't come back. I would recommend that you still stop off at one of the removal sites and they can check out if it is completely clean. You really shouldn't use advanced tools on your own unless you are an expert malware removalist. You could have ended up with an unbootable computer.

No one security program can catch all the malware that is out there. Perhaps it was a brand new one or one that has gone thru many mutations. Actually, the security program has to work with the user also. It's like a partnership.
