Issue abstract:

Detailed description: I have to turn off my HP 5200 printer to be able to print

Product & version number:Norton 360

OS details:Windows 11

What is the error message you are seeing? No printing

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

Unable to print or scan when connected to Norton VPN here
Note: Norton 360 v22

The settings in these instructions are different than what I am seeing. For instance, I have ‘Smart Firewall’ but there is no tab for ‘Network Trust’.

Yeah, document appears to be for v22.
We’ll hoping Norton publishes v25 User Guide.

are you Norton 360 v22 or v24/v25?

Configure Smart Firewall settings v24/v25 here

I cannot find a version number, only that it is Norton 360 Deluxe. I can get to the pages you included above and have just about the same settings. Still can’t print. It seems odd that you have to turn off VPN to print. Thank you for trying.

those pics are my settings…not my settings suggestions to fix your issue
Did you review Public network exceptions?
Did you review Blocked devices?

I can only find Recent Networks. I can’t tell which s active: Private on white background, or Public on black background.

Under Private Network Exceptions, all are check marked in green.

Default rule settings

As you appear to be on the newer v24, from the main 360 interface, click on Privacy in the left pane, then Open the VPN feature. Click on the Settings tab and then scroll down and turn on the Access Local Devices with VPN.

fwiw ~ my Access Local Devices with VPN is enabled…by default…afaik

Yes, mine is set that way, but still can’t print unless VPN is off.

How do you include an image with a post? Copy and paste doesn’t work for me.

Thank you. I am using Snipping Tool. I just wasn’t saving the file first.

I’m having the same issue. I don’t see a solution to this problem.

AI Overview
When using a VPN with a wireless printer, you may encounter issues with printing or scanning if the VPN is blocking access to the printer. This is because the VPN encrypts and routes all network traffic through a remote server, potentially interfering with local network communication. Several solutions can be tried, including enabling split tunneling in the VPN settings to exclude the printer software, adjusting firewall settings to allow access, or connecting to a different VPN region if available.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  1. Understanding the Issue:
  • VPN and Local Networks:

When a device connects to a VPN, its network traffic is routed through a remote VPN server. This can prevent local network connections, such as those needed for printing, from working correctly.

Some VPNs might block the printer drivers from appearing in File Explorer or Network locations.

  1. Potential Solutions:

Split tunneling allows you to specify which apps or traffic should bypass the VPN, while other traffic is still routed through the VPN. This can be a good way to allow your printer software to access the local network.

  • Firewall Settings:

Ensure that your firewall (like the Norton Firewall) doesn’t block access to your printer. You might need to configure the firewall to allow specific IP addresses or applications.

  • VPN Region:

If your VPN offers different server locations (regions), trying a different server might resolve the issue.

  • Reconfigure Printer:

Sometimes, reconfiguring your printer, such as reinstalling the driver or changing the connection type, can help.

  • Restart Devices:

Restarting both your computer and the printer can help resolve temporary network issues.

  • Device Trust:

If using Norton VPN, you can add your printer to Device Trust to allow it to be accessed while connected to the VPN.

  • Access Local Devices with VPN:

Some VPNs have a setting to allow access to local devices even when the VPN is active.

  1. Troubleshooting Steps:
  • Check VPN Settings:

Examine your VPN settings for options like split tunneling, device trust, or access to local devices.

  • Verify Printer Network Settings:

Make sure your printer is properly configured for your network and that it’s connected to the network.

  • Test Without VPN:

Try printing without the VPN active to confirm that the problem isn’t related to the VPN.

  • Consult VPN Support:

If you’re still having issues, contacting the VPN provider’s support can be helpful.

The Windows 10 Forums may offer further insights into troubleshooting specific VPN and printer issues.

  • Norton Community:

I don’t see a solution posted, is it there and just not working for me, and unfortunately unable to get any help from those that are the product experts.
