Can't purge data

I'm using N360 on Win8. My problem is that I want to purge all the current datasets and start afresh. I see from one of the other posts that I need to go to My Computer and find the Norton Drive to do this, I'm using Windows Explorer and can see "Computer" (not "My Computer") but can't see Norton Drive. I've done a search on "Norton", and it also doesn't find "Norton Drive". What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

What is your backup set configuration? The destination drive/folder that you have selected would be the place to look for the backups that have been made in the past.

Keep us posted

Thanks, Dick. My config is as follows: I had N360 installed on 3 machines (let's call them A, B & C). I had set up online backups for B & C, but I'm about to dispose of machine B so I uninstalled N360 from it. My backup for C failed recently because of insufficient online storage. When I checked nobu, I found that there is still one backup dataset for machine B on it, even though I had uninstalled N360 from it. Also nobu says that 83% of 4Gb is used, which really surprises me because there is only 854 Mb of data backed up. This is why I want to purge all my online backup data and start afresh. I have tried to delete the online backup dataset for B using "Delete Backed up Files" in the "Manage Backup Sets" screen of N360, but even though N360 says that there are 1181 files found, when I hit the "OK" button to delete, it says "No files found".

I guess there is no solution to my problem. Any suggestions perhaps for a workaround?

Hello etchman

Norton Online Backup will not allow the purging of Norton 360 backup sets. It will only allow you to restore the content. Do you have Norton 360 installed on any machine currently?

Hi Wesley, yes I do have N360 installed on one machine. And there is 12.5 Mb of data currently backuped up to online storage from it. Nobu says that 3.3 Gb (83% of 4Gb) of storage is being used, but I need another 1.9 Gb of online storage for other data.

Thanks - Jan Penn

PS. Would it help if I reinstall N360 on my old machine?

No, don't uninstall anything at the moment. Do you see the Norton Drive in My Computer on the machine where you have Norton 360 installed?

If yes, do you see the sets in question listed?

Hi Wesley, I can see "Computer" on my machine and the sets in question. When I double-click one one of the sets I can navigate down to the individual files backed up. This looks like progress to me!

Hi Jan

That's excellent news. From the main Norton Drive screen, where the set names are listed, right click on one of the ones you wish to purge. You should see an option to Delete or Purge. Click that and let it run.

Absolutely do not close the window, cancel the purge or shut the computer down. This may take a little while as it removes the online content.

If you feel ambitious you can go ahead and remove any others you want to purge. Once it finishes let me know how it goes.

Hi Wesley,

Not so good news this time. I did what you said and tried to delete one of the datasets (see screenshots in A & B). I then left it for an hour or so, but I don't think that anything was happening because I could immediately take control of Windows Explorer to carry out other operations. I then tried to navigate down to the lowest level and delete a single file from that same dataset (see screenshots in C), but again nothing seemed to happen even though I tried to delete the file several times.

There is another puzzling thing, the total size of the two datasets is in fact about 200Mb, whereas it appears to be about 870Mb in the Norton Backup Drive and about 3.3Gb in nobu!

Any suggestions, anybody?
