Can't remove NISBE08110

Hi,

I've been following similar posts on this board and that's why I'm posting here. I've used Norton Removal several times, but can't seem to remove NISBE08110 which continues to appear as an icon on my startup screen. How can I remove this program?  Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I've been following similar posts on this board and that's why I'm posting here. I've used Norton Removal several times, but can't seem to remove NISBE08110 which continues to appear as an icon on my startup screen. How can I remove this program?  Thanks for your help!

My problem may be related to zimboes (see another thread on this board). I have Vista and NIS2009. I think the problem is that even after you dutifully run Norton Removal several times, Norton “things” remain (in my case NSWBE08110 - which is some porton of Norton System Works 2008). In doing some research here and elsewhere, it seems relatively impossible for a layman to get a clean uninstall. Any ideas?  Might have to do it manually. Thanks!

I am also having a problem as described above, so I used the Norton removal tool to remove both. However, 2 icons remained on my startup screen  - NSWBE08110 and Install Norton System Works (or something like that). Then I reinstalled NIS 2009, rebooted, then reinstalled NSW Basic. All seems well (the NIS 2009 seems to be working well), except that the NSW "hangs" on the cleanup scan (or whatever the last function of the One Button Checkup is).  Sometimes, when running One Button Checkup, I see something that says Internet Explorer has stopped working.

Is it possible to have both applications on your computer at once?  Perhaps something is wrong with my removal or install process. Should I use something like Advance System Care instead of NSW?

Thanks and any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Which version of NSW Basic do you use with NIS2009? Normally they should work together fine. We saw problems only when you use an older NSW version with the new norton products, such as NSW2006/2007.

I use Norton System Works 2008 (shown on my computer as NSW08110). I think the problem is that it very difficult for a layman to get a clean uninstall of NSW 2008. I’ve run the Norton Removal tool several times, always reinstalling NIS2009, but it doesn’t remove all of NSW2008, as evidenced by NSWBE08110) staying on my computer. Any ideas? I may have to remove it manually. Using Vista Thanks.

Now you say NSWBE08110 !!!! You said NIS before

NSW2008 and NIS2009 are entirely different structures and don't remove in the same way.

Have you looked in WIndows / Remove Programs to see if there are any entries there? NSW2008 used the old live update system and there should be an entry in Remove Programs for the Symantec LiveUpdate module -- have a look in Control Panel and it should be there if it has not been removed.

If I were starting from scratch I'd be inclined to remove NIS2009 first using its own uninstall and then run the NRT for NSW2008 and if there's anything else left have a look with RevoUninstaller -- or start with that ....

I would also manually delete all Norton folders you might find using a file manager and clean the startup control msconfig as indicated earlier.

If there are any Norton icons left on your desktop just remove them with Delete.

Please answer the question of what you meant in your first message

What startup screen?

Hi Patrick,

There is a similar problem of NSS appearing on the startup reported on the forum. The solution was to remove the entry from Windows task Scheduler and delete a registry key(suggested by Dave_Coleman). You can try the same:

Delete the NSWBE08110.exe from the scheduled tasks(if it is present)

Start -> Control Panel -> Scheduled Tasks
        Delete the NSWBE08110 Scheduled Task

Delete the NSWBE08110.exe RunOnce registry key.

Start -> Run -> type "regedit"
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
         Software
           Microsoft
              Windows
                CurrentVersion
                   RunOnce

Not sure of the name of the exact registry key, but it may have NSWBE as a part of it's name. Also, backup the whole registry before performing so. Let us know the results.

Hi Patrick:

Would you do us a Hijackthis log for us so we can see what is happening in your system.  It will make it easier to pinpoint the error.

You might have to post it in two parts.

Thanks for all of your help, folks. This is getting way too complicated for me!  :-)  My NIS2009 subscription is ending soon. When I upgrade to Norton 360, I’m going to use the service where someone at Norton does a complete uninstall (including the remnamts of NSW Basic 2008), then an install of Norton360

Hi,

To me this sounds like you have the file NSWBE08110.exe (which is the installation package) and the "Install Systemworks" shortcut on your desktop. None of these files will be removed by the Norton Removal Tool, you will have to delete them manually by rightclicking on them. They should not interfere with the new installation even if you leave them there though.

If on the other hand the issue is that the installation starts upon boot, I would recommend that you follow yogesh_mohan's instructions.

jAW

I think that is why we were hoping for a HJT log Patrick.  With that we might be able to tell you which item to put a checkmark beside and then you click “Fix.” It’s much less complicated. But it is for you to choose.

Hi JAW,

That's it exactly! Where and how do I right click?  Thanks!

I used Norton Removal, but NSWBE08110.exe (an installation package) and a related shortcut icon remain.  How can I manually remove these?  Can it be done without going into the registry?  Thanks and sorry I closed out an earlier thread before I could post this question.

Delete these files from your desktop if you do not want them anymore.  Right click on the files / icons and select Delete from the pop up menu.  Then Empty your recyle bin (Trash Can) on your desktop and they will be gone.

If you want to save these files for future reference, then just cut and paste the files into a personal folder inside Explorer (Windows file explorer not Internet Explorer).  You can use the same right click to get to the Cut and Paste commands.

Does deleting the shortcut icon delete the underlying nsbe08110.exe as well?  If not, how do I remove this installation program? Thanks!

I thought they were both on the desktop, but this will take care of them.  Right click on the icon for the install package and select properties.  You will get something simialr to this:  (This is just an example; your's will have different information in the fields.)

Live Update Settings.png  This is showing you the properties of the shortcut.  Click on the 'Open File Location' button and a window will open wherever the file is on your hard drive.  In that window, right click on the file and select delete.  Close the File location window and then click Cancel on the shortcut Properties window.  Once this is closed, right click on this icon and select Delete.  Then go to the Recycle Bin and empty it.  Both the icon and the file will be gone.

Thanks dbrisindine and jaw. I think your advice will help a number of people on this board. I followed your instructions and it worked fine, except that on my desktop? (the screen that opens just after I put in my password), an icon (looks like a folder) still appears entitled  nswbe08110. It appears that there is something in that folder (which I think I’d like to delete), but your instructions do not work to delete that folder.  How do I delete the contents of that folder and the icon? Thanks again!

Click on it to select that folder; press the DEL key.  Answer Yes / OK to delete all the contents and the folder.

Thankis again, debrisentine!
