Carbonite

My computer suddenly quit communicating with Carbonite and my files are not backing up.  Carbonite went through a diagnostic and said that they thought it was Norton or my modem.  All other internet connections work fine.  I've read posts about configuring Norton to accept Carbonite but I'm not very tech savy and I don't understand how to do this configuration.  Does someone have instructions or futher suggestions??

Has the Carbonite client on your PC been updated recently?

Try right clicking on the Norton icon in your system tray and click on Disable Smart Firewall. Choose the shortest time frame and test to see if your backup works. This will test to see if the firewall is causing your problem.

Be sure you turn on the firewall after testing.

Thanks for the reply.  I disabled the smart firewall as you suggested and tried to reinstall Carbonite. After running the Carbonite installation,  I received the same error message as before that Carbonite could not connect because of a failed internet connection.  All of my other applications connect to the internet OK--only problem is Carbonite.

hello,

If the carbonite has been disabled and still you have the same issue , it means that its not regarding with the firewall of norton . It would be best to contact Carbonite so that they can check  the error on it.

Did you try to run Carbonite with the Smart Firewall disabled? Not just trying to install it.

Yes.  I reinstalled this morning with the firewall off.  The software seems to be loading OK, but when my computer attempts to contact Carbonite to start the backup(with the firewall off), I still get the error message that the computer cant connect to the internet.
