Another random file. If Norton does not say its a virus, then its not.
I wouldn't bother figuring out where the file came from. It's like finding a needle in a haystack.

While i did a scan, and was checking.. i saw a file called c:/Fauxvirus/carneyride.exe...
The scanner was checking for this malware (that's its name). Unless you were messaged that this malware was found, it was just checking for it. Thanks!
if this is the case then why: does the chat support people not know about what it is, i cant find any information in the (threat explorer) library on it, and it appear as (checking the folder name and file) and add to the list of "total items scanned"?
and why doesnt the (checking X) not list all other possible malware things it checks for?
I'm a bit unclear on what you mean. I'd recommend that you first review this thread, and let me know if you're seeing this or something else:

If it's something else, please post a screenshot. Thanks!
Hi,
This virus is a new problem for us here in Essex UK.
It has caused big problems during recent update of our Dell USB wireless adaptor to Netgear/Belkin cards to match our newly installed BT HomeHub2-S5HM.
BritishTelcom Broadband Facilities provides a service that changes a users IP address on each session - needing the wireless card to find it afresh. After installing the new wireless device all was OK for a day or 2, then it failes to 'connect' to the BT Hub. I ran the BT's default Norton search and found it langished around C:\fauxvirus\carn??ride.exe. But Norton didn't tell me there was a virus here. But I think there is.
Looking on the Web I see this is not a new virus. Please can some dear soul tell me how to resolve this problem?.. as Norton seems unable.
Regards,
Peter
