Hey all,
I'm sorry if this has been discussed earlier, but I'm really unable to find any relevant threads and so I started a new one.
So I'm going to delete all the .exe and .scr files, format my C drive, and reinstall windows on all of the 10 computers that I have in my office workgroup to try to get rid of Sality virus.
However, I've already installed Norton Total Internet Security 2011 on 5 of these computers. If I remove Norton total security 2011 from each of these machines using the Norton removal tool and then delete all exe files and then format c drive, would the product key be still good to go for 10 computers?
OR
Do I need to surrender the license in some other way back before I uninstall Norton so that I can use the product key again for my 10 computers?
Please let me know the steps which I need to follow to make sure I don't waste my 5 licenses.
Thanks and Regards,
Mohit
Thanks for your reply.
I checked the link and it says i got 5 installs left out of the protection for 10 pcs.
So if i uninstall norton and format it in the 5 pcs that i already have norton installed, and then reinstall norton, i'll still have 5 installs left?
Edit: I forgot to mention, I'm using GFI Backup to backup my documents. Are there any specific formats that i need to look out for to ensure i dont copy sality again? I've read that it infects .exe and .scr
I'm only going to backup the office files (xls, doc, access database) and tally data files.
Also, do i need to format the whole hdd? I was only planning on formatting C drive and delete all the unwanted files from other drives. I've made sure that the system restore is turned off and that there are no hidden files left on any of the other drives.
It may depend on what version of Sality you have on the machine. There are many variants of it. It also downloads other malware, so it may be difficult to know what all is on your machine, or how best to remove it.
The machines that it has already been installed on may just pick up the licence again without using an additional licence. If you format the machines and reinstall, it may count down the licences, but you can talk to customer service chat, and they will resolve it for you.

Thanks.
It seems that it would always count down the licences unless you inform them that you are formatting your computer. So Thanks for that chat link.
