I’m having a problem with Driver Updater. What are my options?
https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/4402564268429#i-m-having-a-problem-with-driver-updater-what-are-my-options--0-0

Or update to the current version -- CCleaner v5.83.9050  -- since your version is a month old?

If you use it carefully -- and I don't use the Registry Clean or keep it running in the background . -- I don't have problems with it and I've used it for many years

Avast Driver Updater - Just uninstall it, usually slows down performance and can create more problems than it fixes!

The new Driver Updater feature introduced in CCleaner v5.82 has caused so many problems that Avast/Piriform has created a separate board for Driver Updater in the forum at https://community.ccleaner.com/forum/46-driver-updater/ and moved all the related threads there.  Employee MeganCCleaner has posted instructions on how to collect and submit diagnostic logs in Driver Updater Disaster for anyone who would like to report a problem with this new feature.

I'm still using CCleaner v5.81.

Okay....I'm not aware red dot nor yellow dot meaning.

I observed red dot after CCleaner in-place update and no red dot after first driver updater scan.

I observed red dot after fresh CCleaner install and no red dot after first driver updater scan.

Hi bjm_:

Regarding your image <above> for the Slim build of CCleaner FREE v5.82, Bigeasy1302 posted in Version 5.82.8950 Driver Updater Not Working last week asking what a red dot on the Driver Updater tile means but still hasn't gotten a reply.  I suspect it means something like "not fully functional" because only the PRO version of CCleaner can download and install drivers.

A yellow dot on a tile in the CCleaner interface signifies that you have a beta (trial / experimental) version of a new feature.  See nukecad's comment in Yellow Dot about how a handful of users received a beta version of the Software Updater (Tools | Software Updater) for testing back in April 2019 when they installed CCleaner v5.55.

Hi huwyngr:

That's what I initially assumed when I read the release notes but bjm_'s screen shot <above> that says "You have 31 drivers to update" is for CCleaner FREE v5.82.8950.  bjm_ will have to clarify if they were testing a trial (unactivated) version of CCleaner PRO or whether a random number downloads of CCleaner Free v5.82 are still being shipped with a beta version of Driver Updater.

~ my CCleaner "Check for updates" process is to retain -

as always, your mileage may vary

btw ~ my preferred CCleaner installer = CCleaner - Slim

Having fired up my Free one it told me I was using the latest version ........ 5.80.8743  twice but the next time it told me it had updated me to the latest version 5.80.8950 and that did offer a working version with Updater.

I ran it since it said it was reversible and also needed specific OKs -- Nothing surprising ..... yet. I wonder if we will get bombarded with requests to update to Pro if we want to keep the Updater?

Sorry about any confusion but it seems it's not restricted to me ....

for example:
Drivers to Update (31)
"Learn more" calls

"Update" calls "Start 14-day trial" or "Upgrade Now"

New PRO Feature: Driver Updater! means a new feature offered with CCleaner Professional.

my pics [here] are CCleaner Free = CCleaner Free reports "drivers to update" "See your drivers" populates "Drivers to Update and Up-to-date Drivers - CCleaner Free does not update drivers - CCleaner Free > "Update your drivers" prompts Upgrade to CCleaner Professional.

I downloaded three separate copies of the Portable build of CCleaner Free v5.82 (ccsetup582.zip) from https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds(link is external) and none of them included the new Driver Updater feature

If you check the table showing What's in Free and What's in Pro the Updater is only in Pro .... thank goodness!

Too many such driver apps including in Windows itself! If it;s working for me I leave it unless I read some reliable source that an update is really needed -- like our friends at Bleeping Computer! And here too of course!

I've seen reports where the new Driver Updater feature in CCleaner v5.82 is offering outdated drivers for Intel network cards that are older than the installed version.  According to employee Ezra CCleaner's post today (18-Jun-2021) in Two Issues with Driver Updater  Driver Updater will be "fixed" so that it no longer looks for driver updates for Intel network cards....

The CCleaner Bug Reporting board now has multiple reports of CCleaner Pro v5.82.8950 users who experienced BSODs after allowing the new Driver Updater feature to update their drivers - see  BenRiver's 17-Jun-2021 Driver Update Caused BSD for one example.

I downloaded three separate copies of the Portable build of CCleaner Free v5.82 (ccsetup582.zip) from https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds and none of them included the new Driver Updater feature (either a "stable" or beta version).  Here are all the files bundled inside the Portable ccsetup582.zip (note that I normally delete all files but CCleaner64.exe, Portable.dat and License.txt and copy over the CCleaner.ini configuration file from the previous version):

According to the version history at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/version-history the addition of a fully functional Driver Updater to CCleaner Pro v5.82 (i.e., that can both detect and install driver updates) is the only change that was made in this release - there are no bug fixes so I think I'll be skipping v5.82 altogether.

For the point 1 It's detecting an older version as if it's newer (see screenshot). This has been corrected, so that such driver updates for Intel network cards should no longer be offered as of tomorrow morning.

Simply excluding all Intel network cards from the driver scan seems like a quick and dirty way to solve the problem, and it makes me wonder how many other outdated drivers are being recommended (and automatically installed) by Driver Updater in CCleaner Pro.

As a general rule most third-party driver updater and registry cleaner utilities are detected by Malwarebytes as PUPs (potentially unwanted programs).  I don't know if the standalone Avast Driver Updater is currently flagged by Malwarebytes as a PUP but I'm curious to see if Malwarebytes finally stops giving Avast (who acquired Piriform in 2017) a free pass and starts flagging CCleaner as a PUP.  I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Avast has added Driver Updater to CCleaner v5.82 so they can use CCleaner users as beta testers for their own Avast Driver Update utility.
