When I shut down my ocmputer sometimes, I get a dialog box saying that ccSvcHst.exe is shutting down. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's still unnerving. I have read that this is supposed to be part of Norton, but I am not sure.
Also, tonight, when I turned my computer on and tried to use Norton, my computer bluescreened, saying that it shut down to prevent damage to Windows. I think the reason it said was "Error in non page area", but I am not sure, because I quickly hit the power button out of fear. What causes that? That last time I had that problem, it happened EVERYTIME I tried to do a scan, so I had to do a clean wipe of the computer and reinstall windows to fix it. My computer is over 9 years old, could THAT be the problem? I turned it back on and did a scan, and all it found ws a tracking cookie.

I am using Noton Anti-Virus '09, Ver. 16.2.0.7 and I am using Windows XP Pro w/Service Pack 3. It has 512MB RA. I fiured that it might be the case, but getting a new computer is tough with theses economic times. And I am not sure about the filing system.
The last time I tried doing a registry check, the computer almost died for some reason, so I am not very eager to try again, though there shouldn't be any since it's only been about 5 months (I think) since this things been wiped. Thanks for the help you were able to give.

Thanks for the detail. 512MB is low to run XP Pro although I did it for some time myself!
The error checking I pointed to is nothing to do with the registry which is something I steer clear of myself. It runs a basic utility called chkdsk using the switch /f that tells it to try and fix what it finds wrong. So I would recommend trying it but with the age of the hard drive have you backed up your personal files onto some kind of outside media -- CD etc?
<< And I am not sure about the filing system. >>
When you locate the drive C: and right mouse click on it and select Properties on the General TAB that comes up you will see File System: ?????? and that will tell you: FAT FAT16 FAT32 NTFS are the possibilities.
If it is NTFS all the more reason to run chkdsk /f since the NTFS file system is very robust and self healing.
But the disk could fail .....
Do you have the disk to reinstall XP Pro?
As a matter of interest, how large is the hard drive storage?
