In reviewing my Norton account, it prompted their advice to add security freezes. I was redirected to ChexSystems (I have previously added security freezes to Equifax, etc, and have the ref # from chexsystems for my request)… After trying to log in it appears I didn’t register for the online portal, and was told I was sent a PIN via USPS. (I either did not receive it, or it got tossed accidently) However, after contacting their number by phone, I was told I didn’t have ANY freezes, and they wanted all my personal information, SSN, DOB, address, etc. These were call centers in INDIA. is this LEGIT??? Help!
fwiw ~ my recent contact with ChexSystem felt like offshore support.

All, ChexSystems has nothing to do with credit bureaus. Its used entirely by banks to cross check other financial institutions for banking abuse, etc. I’ve never had a PIN sent to me by CS via USPS, that is a scam.

I have ChexSystem letter - Sept 2016 - sent via USPS with PIN.
I recently had occasion to unfreeze ChexSystem…online.
ChexSystem generated new PIN with freeze ChexSystem again…online.
“offshore support” is a good description. I was prompted and redirected directly to them via my Norton Lifelock account. Curious if your experience ended up being legit?
fwiw, I’m waiting for the PIN letter. Assuming the interaction (used the phone number from their support, directly from Norton link) was legit, everything about the conversation felt like a scam. I kept telling myself… “but it’s directly linked via Norton”. Fingers crossed.
Hello @Jdawg
Have you registered online with ChexSystems?
Your ChexSystem PIN# is needed to un-Freeze your ChexSystems report.
When you re-Freeze ChexSystems. You’ll get a new PIN#.
The online process feels easy once I was familiar with the online process.
Yes, my ChexSystems experience ended up being legit.
I called ChexSystems with questions about the Freeze process. I had froze my ChexSystems years back and had forgotten that ChexSystems PIN# is per new Freeze event.
Note: new Freeze event generates new PIN#…temporary un-Freeze with auto re-Freeze is not deemed new Freeze event.
You do not need LifeLock by Norton to Freeze - un-Freeze your Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, ChexSystems, etc., reports.
I’d urge users to register online with Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, ChexSystems, etc.,.
I’d urge users to protect their Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, ChexSystems, etc.,. login credentials, PINs, account/reference numbers…same as their most sensitive information.
When/If you apply for new credit &or new bank account. Inquire whether you’ll need to un-Freeze credit reporting agencies, ChexSystems, etc.,…before applying. When I recently inquired…when I wanted to apply for a new bank account online. I was urged…wait 24+ business hours after un-Freeze before submitting online application.
