Chrome slow performance with N360

Chrome slow performance on sites with N360 installed

Detailed description:

For a while I’ve had slow performance on a lot of websites, like Gmail, YouTube, Google search and Amazon.

I’ve been scratching my head about it, rebooting/resetting my modem/router, uninstalling various software, reinstalling chrome and starting with a fresh profile and I still have the slow performance.

The slow perf doesn’t happen in Firefox or Vivaldi. Which I found odd, as Vivaldi is Chromium based.

Then I tried something drastic, for me, and uninstalled Norton 360 and suddenly, Chrome works perfectly. I’ve tried to full uninstall and reinstall N360 several times, used the Norton Removal tool, removed all files, tried with smart firewall enabled, disabled, intrusion prevention disabled, in fact everything disabled with norton running and I still have issues in Chrome. The only way to resolve it is to uninstall Chrome.

I have a Windows 11 laptop with Norton 360 installed and I don’t seem to have the same issues on that, which I find very strange. I’m out of ideas to try and resolve it on my Desktop PC running Windows 10. Any ideas?

Thanks

Product & version number: 25.6.10221 (build 25.6.10221.940)

OS details: Win 10 22H2 (fully updated)

Are you using version 139.0.7258.42 of Chrome on both Windows 10 and 11?

SA

They’re both 138.0.7204.158
139 appears to be beta build.
On the windows 10 PC the issue seems to have persisted across multiple versions of Chrome and N360

One thing comes to mind, do you have Gemini AI enabled in Chrome? If so disable it restart the browser and recheck.

SA

Nope, no Gemini. I can’t stand AI so would never let it be enabled

But it’s the same on my current profile, a brand new profile, reinstalls… config the same on laptop and desktop so I’m very bamboozled

If you possibly can, Open Chrome with ONLY one tab open. Then open Task Manager, list the processes that are running and get a screenshot the processes. I’d like to review what you are seeing. Also include a screenshot of all the Norton processes that are running for comparison. Thanks in advance.
