Citrix and NIS2010 will not work together

I have lost ability to enter my company’s website using citrix.  After installing and uninstalling Citrix Online Plug-in Web (many times), it says citrix install completed successfully.  However, it does not appear in the “all programs” list.  It does appear under control panel list . Can anyone tell an not too technical person what I can do to fix this?

I use NIS 2010 and I also use Citrix to access resources on my company's servers. I actually have no trouble with Citrix at all.

You're asking a comlex question because there are so many variables, for example: which Citrix client, which version, how is your access provisioned (e.g., through VPN)...it's really tough to offer a solution

I suggest you talk to your computer people at work. They're in the best position to help you.

I am running Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and IE 7.0.6002.  I am not aware of any other security software that is running.  I log on to a hosted site for my company.  Once there, I log in with my work logon and password, plus a random number token generator.  I am then brought into a landing page where the applicaitons are available such as lotus notes, IE (intranet), ,MS Word, powerpoint, etc.

When I click the lotus notes icon for example, a dialog box briefly flashes up, as if it is starting up, then it disappears.  Nothing happens.  That is the same outcome regardless of the applicaiton I click.  I just usually need the lotus notes so that is the one I'm trying most often - to no avail.

My company technicians cannot help as they have told me they can't know all the software on everyone's machine.  Dell tech tried in conjunction with another issue I had (config.msi access restriction, plus a bluetooth stack problem - now fixed).  He installed Citrix last night, and I saw the "install completed successful" dialog box.  However, as I noted in the original post, it does not show up on the list of programs when I click on the start menu, but does appear in the list when I look to "Unistall" a program in Control Panel.  This issue did not exist until Norton 2010 was installed (and that was done by the Norton tech last week using remote access - so I didn't mess it up :)

Hope that provides some additional info that may help with a diagnosis.

Oh yes, the version of Norton 2010 is 17.0.0.136

Go into the Settings > Network Settings > (scroll the page down) Smart Firewall > Program Control > Configure.  In the listed programs, locate the Citrix program and change the Access from Auto to Allow.  Click Apply and OK, OK and then try your connection again.

Let us know what happens here.  Thank you.

I'm sorry - I'm not that tech saavy - where do I find "settings" in order to begin that progression?

gtokaren:

Open your NIS2010. You will see the Network pane in the centre.  Settings is in the top right corner.  Follow the path and instructions given by dbrisendine.

Once you get to the program control screen and click "Add" you will see all of your program files.  Just go to Citrix to find the executable file and add it.

I did the steps in that were provided.  I could not do the "add" find Citrix and "add".  Those were not options when I clicked on Citrix.  The option was to "open".  In any case, I changed the settings to "allow", went out on my company website, and got the same result.

Once you are in a browse menu, the word "open" is actually synonymous with "do whatever action you are browsing to do."  It's stupid, but that's the way it was designed.

But back through the steps and when you get to the Citrix executable (I am guessing that it will look something like citrix.exe), select it, then click on the "open" or whatever it is called.

Hi Gtokaren,

To be more specific about the exe to be added,

Add the wfcrun32.exe located in the following path "Program files\Citrix\ICA Client\wfcrun32.exe" to NIS 2010 ->Network Settings > (scroll the page down) Smart Firewall > Program Control -> Configure

Select "Allow" for that exe from "What do you want to do?"  drop down list

Similarly try adding wfica32.exe located in the same location ( Program files\Citrix\ICA Client\wfica32.exe)

Since Citrix online plug-in Web is a web based plug-in it will not be listed in the Start menu -> All programs.

Try the above mentioned steps and kindly let us know the status.

Regards,

Uma

I followed the instructions and added all of the citrix "applications" that were noted in the window and set them to allow.  There were a number of citrix folders and programs in there.  I also set Norton to allow other than administrator to change configuration.  Then I went out to my company's website and got the same result as always - lotus notes or any other app will not open.

I am at my wits end with this issue.

My previous reply was before I tried the win32 adds.  After doing that, I did notice a slight difference this time, but still did not open.  For a brief instant, a green progress bar showed at the bottom of the screen, then it disappeared.  It had actually started to show progress with the green bar moving a bit left to right before it went away.

Seems as if we may be getting closer.  should I add all citrix apps to the "allow" mode?

This issue seems to be very similar to this one where web-based plug-ins are causing a problem.

Can you look in your Norton history under firewall and network connections to see what if anything is actually being blocked.  Since it is a web-based application, I'm wondering if it is more of a Windows setting problem, or browser security problem that is actually preventing the connection rather than the firewall.

The only thing that I saw with the word block associated with it is...

Rule "Default Block Windows Filesharing" blocked communication.  Process name is "System".

Not sure what to make of that...

If you go into your Norton under internet settings, scroll down to the area where you can configure the firewall rules, double click on that particular rule and you should be able to specifically allow the program .exe, the IP address, to and from, and even the particular port that it needs to have open, if you know what port it is.  You may have to find out what port is being used.

I'm sorry, I can't be more specific because I am at work and don't have Norton.

If that is the only block, I would start there.

I'm running across the same problem in trying to use Citrix for remote access to a school's website.  After downloading and installing Citrix (and restarting Firefox), the school's website continues to say that I don't have Citrix installed.  Following the advice on this thread, I went into NIS2010 and added all three of Citrix's .exe files to the allowed list.  Didn't help.  I then tried disabling the "stealth-blocked ports" feature.  Again, no effect.

In Norton's history, around the time I first tried to remote-access the site, I found two entries that may or may not be helpful.  One said "Rule 'Default Block UPnP Discovery' blocked 192.168.1.67 Port ssdp (1900). Inbound UDP packet"

The other said:  "Rule 'Default Block Windows File Sharing' blocked communication.  Process name is 'system.'"

I should also mention that the school's instructions for remote access says that TCP/IP port 1494 (inbound) and UDP port 1604 (inbound and outbound) must be open.  I need help in determining whether they are open -- and, if not, how to open them.  I don't know how to use Norton to change settings on individual ports.

Am running Windows XP, by the way.

Thanks.

So far am still not able to get citrix to work either.  I look forward to any insights - my issue is with Windows Vista, but maybe it's caused by the same thing?  I hope to find out.

Also if anyone comes up with some new thoughts, I would appreciate some basic steps as I am not that saavy with the settings on the op system.  Thanks

BlebNevus:

This is the procedure to build a rule in the Norton firewall.  It will need to be moved to the top of the list to allow it to work.  You will see in the configuration settings when you build the rule, the move up button.  dbrisendine has provided these instructions on similar threads with similar issues.

Select Network:Settings

Select Smart Firewall:Advanced Settings:Configure

Select General Rules:Configure

Select Add

Select Next (Allow should have been already selected)

Select Next (Connections to and from other computers should have already been selected)

Select Next (Any Computer should have already been selected)

Change allowed protocol to TCP and UDP

Select "Only communications that match..." and then Add

Select "Individually specified ports" and then enter the required ports into the text input field

Select OK

Finish following the Wizard to the end

Update:  I'm now not convinced the issue was Norton-related at all.  Despite the "Citrix not installed" error message, I logged in anyway -- without manually opening ports or making other changes in Norton.  This got me to the next step, where a screen featured a bunch of programs available through remote access.  Unfortunately, the program I tried wouldn't open; I got a pop up that announced this but didn't explain why.  Finally made it work by closing out and trying again . . . through IE rather than Firefox.

Don't know whether this will be helpful to the O.P.
