Early this morning, I clicked on a link in a known scam email supposedly from the USPS. As soon as I saw the dialog asking if I wanted to open the attachment, I realized what I had done and closed the window without opening the file.
I ran Norton Power Eraser immediately, and it found nothing. Could my system be infected with the virus anyway? If so, what should I do now?

Welcome,
Just watch things very carefully for any changes in the way things have been working. If you deleted the file without opening it that's usually enough to keep the infection from spreading.
Keep your opeerating system and Norton product current, run a full scan from the safe mode just to make sure.
Keep us posted
Hi smbschrader,
In order to become infected you would have had to open the attachment. If you downloaded the file but cancelled out of opening it, you should be OK. As dickevans suggested, just keep an eye on things.
You could also run a second opinion scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/
