Comcast Norton hogging power

I have a problem that maybe you can help me with.  I have a machine running Windows XP 2005 Media Edition(with all updates including SP 3).  I run Norton A/V that I got being a Comcast customer.  So it's what ever the latest version Norton provides to Comcast customers.  Anyway, I believe it's been hogging power.  At least it appears that way to me.  Or else it's some spyware/malware/keylogger type thing that 3 different programs have been unable to detect.  And I've even rebooted XP twice from scratch now and the problem has not gone away.  And it's cropped up(the power hogging issue) both times after I installed Norton.  Any idea how I can fix it?
