I recently changed from a Wirledd net provider to Comcast/XFinity which as I understand includes Norton Security Suite as a part of their service. Both my systems already had Norton Internet Security installed so I am wondering does the Comcast version overwrite my version of NIS (for which I already have a paid subscription that automaticlaly updates)? I am asking this as my Norton Toolbar (2013.4.2.2) on the main machine has been disabled with a message that it currently is not compatible with Firefox 20. On the other system (which is running 22.0) it is working fine.
If so, how do I go about reinitiating the original install of NIS?
Once you upgrade FF as Rainbow_2 suggests, I guess you could call it decision time - if you sdesire to switch to Comcast's Norton Security Suite (NSS) or stick with Norton Internet security.
Here is a NSS FAQ from the Comcast Security Board that I authored telling you how to change from the paid NIS to the free NSS.
Please note it is important to remove your NIS prior to installing NSS - as they are diffferent programs. NSS is a version of N 360, and contains addtional options as compared to NIS. (Backup and tuneup options). Also some things are different in NSS in that there is no Online Vault, it only has a Local Vault. Thus if you use the Online Vault in NIS and have multiple mobile devices they can not be linked to NSS's Local Vault.
If you decide to go with Comcast's NSS and have time remaining on your license for NIS the following can apply:
If you’re already a paying Norton subscriber, and would like to switch to our complimentary Comcast subscription, chat with one of our customer support representatives.
Whereas if you are getting down to crunch time on yuor license, you can just following the instructions in the NSS FAQ i referenced above and not worry about the remaining days.
...as I uderstand though, ver. 23 is a beta and not a full public release. Woud updating to ver. 22 be sufficient?
I tend to avoid Beta releases of any software for I need something that works "out of the box" and do not wish to spend my work time dealing with bugs and sumbitting support tickets. FF 22.0 works fine on my other system.
Also isn't the Comcast version less "encompassing" than my paid for NIS subscription? I still have several months to go on my current renewal.
Firefox version 23 is not a beta anoymore it was released to everyone this week - I believe August 6th. I woudl recommend yu update to FF 23.
Many users habve updated to FF 23 and have had no problems.
Define less encompassing??? In what respect?
Since you have several months left, if I may make a suggestion, why niot run thru the FAQ instructions in my last post in reagrds to the install of Comcast NSS on one of your system and see how you like it before your subscription is up? That way you can see what it is like and see if you lik eit better than the NIS you have now. If you do noot care for it, you can always go back to NIS and run it until it expires.
