Comcast

when will comcast custormers be upgraded  from  version 4.3 to version 5.  and whats the difference between the store bought and the comcast versions ...... thanks

Hello

Point of information please. Is there presently more than 1 Comcast Norton product being offered now? I am under the impression that the Comcast Norton Security Suite is actually N 360 with a different backup program.  Are they also offering a Comcast Security Suite that is like NIS ? As far as I know, there is only Comcast Norton Security Suite which is like N360 with the exception of the backup program even though they are calling it a Security Suite. I think some are getting confused because of where the threads about CNSS were to be placed originally..

Could someone please clear this up for others.? Thanks.

Hi Flo,

Yes, you are correct that the Norton Security Suite is the only product being offered by Comcast. And it is based upon Norton 360.

Allow me to elaborate on the backup options.

1) Comcast NSS has the option for backups to local drives, such as external hard drives (just as in 360)

2) Comcast NSS does not have the online backup option. (Which is included in Norton 360).  Comcast customers have access to free online backup through a separate program powered by Mozy.

The other difference is the that the version update process for the Comcast version generally lags a bit behind the current version updates for Norton 360. I believe Comcast NSS is currently at 4.1.0.32.

Hi Phil,

I would presume that virus definition updates to the Comcast sutie would come from Symantec servers as with the regular N360.

However I would also presume that program updates must always come directly from Comcast, correct?

Thanks

Allen

Just FYI... all the updates come directly from us.  :)

The Comcast product updates do lag a bit (1-2 days) is the usual timing.

the 4.2 version should be out available via LU as of last week.

Hi Bk,

Thanks very much for that. :smileyhappy:

May I ask a couple of follow on questions?

  • What happens when the OP must uninstall and reinstall the security suite?
  • Does the Norton removal tool work with the Comcast security suite?
  • Similarly, what happens after running the removal tool? Where do they get the software installer from? Comcast, I presume? E.g., this is essentially for all practical purposes an initial install.
  • What happens when a new major version is released? E.g., say version 3 to 4. Live Update does not cover this as the normal product requires going to the Norton Update Center or downloading the full version from a direct link. So does the Update center work to update Comcast security suite to a new major release? Are there direct links to the full version of the security suite?

Sorry, but this whole concept brings along with it a lot of questions. :smileywink:

We're getting more and more users posting questions and problems with Comcast security suite so we need to know how to handle all the different aspects.

Thanks very much

Allen

Great questions, Allen. I don't have the answers, but I've asked the team to reply. Thanks!

Hi AllenM,

I am trying to answer some of your queries, hope this will help you:

  • What happens when the OP must uninstall and reinstall the security suite?
Simply use the Norton Removal Tool for Norton Security Suite: http://www.symantec.com/symnrt
Choose the link for Norton Security Suite for instructions to download and run the Norton Removal Tool.
  • Does the Norton removal tool work with the Comcast security suite?
    Yes, it does.
  • Similarly, what happens after running the removal tool? Where do they get the software installer from? Comcast, I presume? E.g., this is essentially for all practical purposes an initial install.
Yes, the Comcast users need to log into their comcast account and download again. You can find a link with the instructions for reinstalling Norton Security Suite on the same Web page which has the instructions for the Norton Removal tool.
When a major version is released, it may take some time(a few weeks) to update the same in Comcast servers and make them available for the existing Comcast users. But, those updates which are available via LiveUpdate may be available for Comcast users much more faster (may get updated within a few days). Direct links are not available since the Security Suite is provided by the Comcast for their users only and it requires specific PIN number for each user. This PIN is provided only when they download from their Comcast Login page.

Hi Bk and Yogesh,

Can one of you provide similar input on the NetZero thread here? :smileywink:

Thanks very much

Allen

I wanted to download norton antivirus thru comcast, but because I have a 64 bit PC, it would not allow me to do so.  Am I out of luck or do I have other options?
