Hello everyone
This post is regarding the Community Watch feature. On installing NIS 2009, I had the Community Watch check box ticked.
Some time after install, I decided to opt-out and disabled the feature via the interface.
Yet, checking the history list and the background jobs screen, the process is clearly still running regularly.
Is this correct behaviour? I would think disabling it should stop it running?
thanks

(running Vista 32bit if it helps)
Thanks for the detailed explanation Mike.
Not being familiar with this feature, it was a little difficult to interpret what was going on until now.
It is reassuring to have such a detailed event history to trawl through when you are trying to understand whats going on.
cheers
bluesun.
bluesun,
Disabling the Norton Community Watch feature does not prevent the Community Watch Background job from running. In general, it will just do nothing when it runs since there is no information to send back to NCW. The background task is not disabled because it is still used if you elect to manually submit a file from "Security History / Quarantine".
Furthermore, we will not clear the Norton Community Watch events from Security History.
* "Submitted" events have already been sent, and are kept for some time for your reference.
* "Processing" / "Pending" events have not be sent, but still will be.
No new events will be generated once you disable the feature, as you have opted out of "Norton Community Watch".
This behavior has been the same for the 2007, 2008, and 2009 Norton Products.
Regards,
Mike
