Completely Stumped - Need Assistance with NIS

Here is my current situation:

It just bought a new Gateway/Acer FX6840 tower with Windows 7 Premium 64-bit that had Norton Internet Security pre-installed with a 60-day trial.  Upon initial setup, I had an internet connection.  I did not start or try to activate NIS.  I then started to remove the pre-installed software that I did not want on the PC.  After removing Norton Internet Security, I can no longer get an IP address or connect to the internet.  My removal process consisted of selecting the Uninstall Norton Internet Security option from Norton’s listing in All Programs.  I verified it was gone in Add/Remove programs and restarted the PC.  No connection since…

What I have done to try and correct the issue:

  • Verified able to ping 127.0.0.1
  • Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
  • Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log
  • Downloaded from another PC the latest Norton Removal Tool, placed on new PC Desktop, and have run in both standard and safe mode.  (I’ve tried every combination of sequence on Resetting WINSOCK & TCP/IP and the Norton Removal Tool with no success.)
  • I even tried restoring the PC to it’s original image, going through the initial setup, but still no access.
  • I then activated the 60-trial NIS that was restored to the system, but it was unable to reach the Symantec servers because there still is no internet connection.
  • I again tried combinations of the Removal tool and resetting WINSOCK & TCP/IP in standard and safe mode.  Still no connection.
  • After scanning this forum, I then downloaded NIS11, copied to new PC and installed.  NIS11 says now 15-day trial, but still have no connection.
  • I have tried turning off the Norton Firewall and going Silent Mode, and running the Norton Removal Tool in both standard and safe mode, but still no connection.

I would GREATLY appreciate any advice that can be provided to restore my ability to get an IP address and get connected to the internet again.  Thanks in advance.
