Computer Tune-up/ Start up programs without Software Vendor or description

Hi there,

I'd be grateful if anyone could help me with this issue.

I've had my xp computer for about 3yrs now and it's become really slow.  And I suppose now I notice it a lot more because I have a new Vista laptop that turns back on from hibernation within seconds in a huge contrast to 4.30 minutes on the XP.

Norton says my computer has been turned-up.  I have personally defragment files to the extent the computer is telling me not to do anymore; cleared all irrelevant start-up programs by using msconfig.  I recently did a diagnostic report (by norton) and it shows me that there are over 20 auto start-up programs/applications that have no Software Vendor or description.  Now my first instinct is to get all those deleted but i'm not sure if that would be wise. Would getting them deleted speed up the computer?

I'd be really grateful if anyone would help answer that question.

Thanks

Norton online chat thingy want to charge me £70 to answer that question and can still not guarantee that the computer would be faster.
