Why is it that EVERY year Norton mess up my computer system around the time to renew? According to my log, I still have 1 month to review and there goes my computer, slows down, freezes, just goes crazy but it only happens prior to my renewal date. This year, I'm going to ask my son what type of security system he uses because this is ridiculous. My computer should still fight viruses up until the very day its time to review. Then, to top it all off, Norton tried to charge my credit card 2 months prior to the renewal subscription. WHAT. I am unemployed and need my computer to look for a job. I will pay you when the time comes, if I decide to renew.
Hello
You need to disable the subscriptions to the threads so you don't get emails every time someone comments as SoulAsylum has mentioned. It's also a good idea to turn off auto-renewal of your Norton Subscription and remove the credit card details. You can find good sales on the products by shopping around.
Have a Good Night and
Thanks.
Bridget since YOU created this thread and IF you have your account here to send email notifications when replies to your posts are made you will get an email those posts/comments were posted. You can disable that in your account settings for the forums.
Cheers
Lies. I received a notice to renew 3 months before renewal date. And notices every two weeks thus. I don't renew the same time every year so Its not my computer; but it happens around the same time to renew. Slow internet, unable to connect, boots me out etc. I really don't need any response to my comment because I already know what I need to do to resolve the, find another antivirus protection provider!!!! Lastly, why are people sending me emails about my comment, shouldn't this just stay in the forum???
All: Knowing what operating systems you are using and browser would be tremendously helpful in assisting. WHAT THE HELL..from where I sit answering an email that most likely wasn't from Norton could be the source of your issue. What is the URL of the "redirect" from your homepage? You can remove it but before doing so copy/paste it then post here so we may see what that redirect actually is and validate for you. Redirects are caused when a PUP/Adware or malware changes your browser/system settings.
If you can download on another computer to a USB device get Malwarebytes here: https://www.malwarebytes.com/
Install from the USB and run. Its doesn't require internet access to perform an initial scan.
Cheers
I noted that the storage fee had been deducted that same day.
What storage fee are you referring to? Do you have a separate subscription to Norton Online Backup? If so, that renewal does not necessarily line up with your Norton Security subscription expiration.
What Symantec redirection are you getting?
It sounds more like you are having difficulties with your Windows installation. What operating system are you using, and what version number? To check your Windows installation, click on Start and type CMD in the search box. Right click on cmd.exe and click on Run as Administrator. Type 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes. This will check your Windows installation and try to correct any errors it finds.
My computer slowed down and became erratic. With over two months to go til auto renewal of Norton Security and Storage online updates I received an email (After my computer became problematic)from Norton indicating that my credit card details needed to be updated. I noted that the storage fee had been deducted that same day. The computer in question has now been blocked with a dialog box that indicates: Microsoft Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. There is no internet access and in the control panel shows a Symantec redirection in the homepage entry. There is an error report but I can't print or send it. Local computer shop repairer attempt to remove file unsuccessful with an attempt to enter via back door also unsuccessful. Norton phone support first attempt was challenging and unsupported. Changed from phone call to online chat with introduction: Hi. And then nothing no call back Zippo! And here I sit - WHAT THE HELL.
There should be nothing in the Norton Security product that would slow down your computer at any time.
If it happens at the same time of year, it sounds more like some activity that occurs at this time. Are you referring to the internet speed, or an overall slowing of your computer while using some program? Or games?.
If you have auto renewal turned on for your product, you should see a notice about 3 - 4 weeks before your current product subscription expires. That notice should tell you the renewal cost and the date the renewal will be processed. This process date is usually about 2 weeks before the subscription expiry, to allow for any possible hiccups in the payment system. This is to ensure your protection does not get interrupted.
You can always go into your Norton Account and turn off the auto renewal and shop around yourself when time comes to renew. It is now up to you to remember when you need to renew, but the upside is that it is usually less expensive to make a new purchase each year from a reputable retailer.
