I have Norton Internet Security 2011. I have used Norton for years and years. Of these 3 keys, the first computer caught fire. A Dell, and I had to replace it the next day as it was now useless. The second computer was stolen, so I am now on my 3rd key with my Toshiba, but I need a new computer because some of the software I use is NOT Windows 7 compatible. I am contacting friends looking for one with Windows XP, so I can continue to use my programs... But since all 3 of my keys have been used on computers that are no longer active (the stolen one was password protected to the point they had to wipe the hard drive to use it.) I will have to purchase another $50 key? Seriously? Help me out here. I am sure you can use your log files to see that only ONE computer still uses my Norton. That only ONE computer updates from my account.
Hello t8st8.
I am sorry to read about your computer being stolen and catching on fire. I do not think you will have to purchase a new product key. If you login to your Norton Account on the link below maybe you could download and reinstall Norton again on your new computer.
Otherwise you can always contact customer support for your country and they will help you to install Norton on your new computer.
t8,
I hope that black cloud hovering over you blows away soon!
From user feedback the best route to get the central database corrected for those abortive installations is to use the Norotn OnLine CUstomer Support via CHAT as below -- they have the tools to make the corrections. Just tell them aabout the two not in use and they can add those activations back in.
To contact customer support Click on this link and work on from there.
You can choose CHAT or Email; email or phone may have a long wait time and feedback from users tells us that CHAT is by far the best at resolving problems.
Note that that link is to the USA/CAN website so if you are located elsewhere I'm sure you will be able to find the equivalent location on your local Symantec website; some pages have a link at the top right where you can select the country you are located in.
If you want to you can download the current installation file for Norton Internet Security 2011 from the link below since taht will be more uptodate than any on the disk you may have -- I don't know about downloading from your MyNortonAccount since I've never gone that route.
Did either computer have any other security software on it when you started downloading to install Norton 360? If so what is it; if there was and you removed it how did you remove it? Apart from the normal uninstalling nearly every security program has a special cleanup tool on its website that you can download and run after the normal install. Let us know first and we can point you to the right tools to use including one for Norton products if you had one installed -- like the trial versions that come on new computers. If they are identical to what you want to install now you may not have to clean up and we can tell you the shortcut.
New NIS 2011:
Click on this link -- NIS 2011This will download a single file of around 90MB which you should save on your hard drive where you can use it again if necessary -- Do not select Run but use Save when asked and remember where you put it!
After you install it run LiveUpdate a couple of times with a reboot inbetween to make sure it's fullly uptodate.
Please let us know how you get on ....
PS Some laptop makers have a system to record the serial number of stolen computers and watch for them if they should come in for repair so you may like to check that out with your maker if you still have the details.
