Running Windows XP Home, Service Pack 3, Fully updated
Internet Explorer 8
Adobe Flash Player 10.2.159.1
Norton Internet Security 2011
Websites containing Flash content are very slow to load and sometimes freeze IE8 for a few seconds and then unfreeze, sometimes reporting that IE8 is not responding.
I think the problem could be caused by a conflict between Norton Safe Web and Adobe Flash Player.
If I turn off Norton Safe Web the websites containing Flash content now load normally and IE8 does not freeze.
Step taken so far to solve the problem:- I have uninstalled Flash Player using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller, rebooted, and then reinstalled Flash Player. Unfortunately this has made no difference.
Has anyone else experienced this problem.
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried disabling Safe Web and loading something that uses Flash Player (that you know is safe) to see if the problem still occurs?
Hello PinguJohn
Welcome to the Norton Community
Have you tried using the Adobe Flash Player manager and using the various settings that are in there? Please see this link.

Thanks.

A good way to narrow it down to a browser issue or a Norton issue would be trying to replicate the problem with a different browser.
The Adobe Flash Player is actually different in Internet Explorer than it is in other browsers like Firefox. IE uses an ActiveX control, and Firefox uses a plug-in. Each must be downloaded and installed separately. Trying another browser means that you are also trying a different Flash Player installation, so I'm not sure if this troubleshooting technique would be as useful in this situation as it is in others.
I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
Hello floplot
Thanks for your reply
Which of the various settings in the Adobe Flash Player manager do you suggest that I change?
Hello Pingu
That is something which you will have to go thru the settings and see what they actually do. There are a lot of settings in the different parts of that manager from blocking cookies to keeping flash content on your computer in a regulated manner.
