Conflict? between Norton Systemworks 2006 and Norton Internet Security 2012

Hi.  In 2008, family computer was upgraded from 40 GB drive to 500 GB drive.  Recently the 500 GB drive crashed.  (Victim of Sandy, it seems).  Recovering -- for now -- by reactivating the 40GB drive -- as it was left in 2008.
Updated it successfully to Win XP SP3 and Norton InternetSecurity 2012 (20.2.0.19).  NIS seems to work fine;
But  I also have Norton Systemworks -- still 2006 version.  Its Norton Protection Center now complains that Virus protection is not installed.   And that the MS Firewall is not on.  Does the old SystemWorks program not recognize NIS2012?

Plan A:  LiveUpdate SystemWorks to 2012 standards

Problem: After downloding a bunch of apparently succesful updates (?? not rebooted yet) its LiveUpdate seems to be corrupted:

> Norton AntiVirus Virus Definitions has 1 aborted update(s).
Reason:
LU1847: LiveUpdate could not determine if there is an update for this product because the update list for this product is corrupted.

> Norton AntiVirus has 1 aborted update(s).
Reason:
LU1845: This product was not updated due to a processing error.

Q :  Is the product redundant now?  Doesn NIS already do Antivirus?

Plan B: install Systemworks 2012.
Problem: it asks me to first uninstall NIS  , then reinstall NSW , then NIS again.

Scary ... do I lose my NIS license if I do so?

Again, with NIS 2012 installed, is it worth to keep NSW around, or is it redundant?

Thanks for any insights,
Ruud.
