Issue abstract: Having issues casting to my TV

Detailed description: In the past, my wi-fi connected TV has been a device on my laptop and I could cast to it. Today it wasn’t working anymore. I deleted the old device and tried to re-connect it in Windows. At the same time, Norton had some pop ups of a new network connection, even though it’s the network I always used. Windows was having problems seeing the TV as a wireless display. I decided to disable the firewall temporarily and I was able to connect the TV, not as a display, but as an “other” device. I noticed also Norton said my home network was now considered PUBLIC. I switched it back to PRIVATE. Can anyone advise as to what is going on? Should I keep my network PRIVATE? Are there settings in Norton to make it easier to allow Windows to cast to the TV?

Product & version number: Norton 360 25.4.10068 (build 25.4.10068.0)

OS details: Windows 11

What is the error message you are seeing?

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

@Steven_D37 You should keep your network set as Private, that will allow devices on your network to communicate with one another. It is also noted that the latest version 25.xx as the version 24.xx release, they both will randomly set your ethernet or wifi network to public is the new engine detects something that looks out of place. That is a bug in the new engine. Reboots also usually result in Norton resetting your network back to public as well

Thanks! Are there any other setting I can make to greenlight the TV connection?

I’m not currently on that latest version, but was at one point. Check the Norton settings for exclusions and what the firewall may be blocking. Unfortunately the way the Avast engine is designed we don’t currently have the settings on the consumer end of things to edit firewall rules in a way we need to.
