Connection to https://retro-printer:631/admin/

Hi there, I was able to connect to this site about 10 days ago, but since then I get various error messages such as “Err_Name_Not_Resolved”, “DNS_Probe_Finished_NXDomain” and today “Err_Connection_Refused”. Had a IPS tech. check the connection from the street to the modem, everything is OK. Have done various troubleshooting with CMD..ipconfig commands. Temp. disconnected the Norton Firewall and Anti-virus separately, same problem. Take care.

@Kenneth_Simmons_65 I suggest consulting with the support folks at Retro Printer. I get the exact same results as you are seeing my side, using an older version of Norton. Norton is NOT blocking anything within the firewall or other settings. Does your Norton install show anything within its firewall or history that suggests its blocking port 631?

Hi SoulSstlum, Norton doesn’t show any history of blocking port 631. I had this problem about two years ago. Been in contact with the retro-printer folks, they said they have no control over the CUPS website (CUPS.org I believe). They said the connection can be problemic at times. I wasn’t sure if it was just me, or if other people had the same problem. Maybe their server is down, maybe needs to be replaced. Who knows.

The CUPS link shows a repository for Apple. How does that relate to Windows on your part?

Edited: Is this the repository you are using?

I talked to the retro-printer folks, about this, their answer wasn’t really clear to me. But I believe we are using the OpenPrinting CUPS, but the admin. site where you configure your printer, I am not sure where that’s at. When you login at the CUPS site using the retro-printer default hostname and password, the https:// changes to your retro-printer module IP address:631/admin/. Windows will add your retro-printer module to your printers. So I have a HP Envy 5530 USB printer hooked up to the Retro-Printer module (Raspberry Pi 3 B+ and retro-printer module on top in a black plastic box) using a USB cable. The Ultimate 64 (modern C64C) and a 40 year old Micrografix WM-350 Centronic Printer Interface hook up to the module at the centronic printer port. So another image of your printer in Windows will be created, example "HP Envy 5530 series @ . Apple stopped a v2.3.6. The OpenPrinter is at 2.4.12. They will be going to v2.5 after this. Hope this makes sense. Take care.

I get this on Opera GX using the admin site you linked: *Localhost refused to connect- NOTHING shows in my Norton history IE: Firewall activities or connections. The remote website is the culprit. Nothing Norton is doing is preventing this connection.

Thanks, now I don’t have to bang my head against the wall, trying to figure this out. Let hope that they only need to replace a part. Might have to try Opera, saw it advertised on one of the YouTube channels the other day. Take care.
