Exactly, Norton AntiVirus/Spyware is requiring this reboot - NOT the compter's operating system.
Hello CousintTone,
What version of Norton AntiVirus are you running? Can you show us a screenshot of this request for a reboot? Is this after running LiveUpdate?
Hey Tim,
I've snoozed it for a bit (I think 12 hours), as soon as it comes back up, I'll get that screen shot posted.
Thanks for your help and response, I appreciate it.

Meanwhile could you post the version of Norton AntiVirus you have -- Help / About and it's in the format: nn.nn.nn.nnn
Please also saywhat version of WIndows you are using including Service Packs and whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit.
Thanks
I've got version 16.5.0.134 running on Windows XP Home version 2002 service pack 3. I don't know the 32/64 part, how do I find that?
Thanks, CT
Hi CousintTone -
Sorry about my earlier post - I must have not had my eyeglasses on. Obviously a Norton related issue.
As to your question, it is simple.
Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
That will give us the information.
BTW - have you tried to boot into Safe Mode and uninstall NIS 2009 and then reboot to see if the problem goes away?
Please report back.
Compumind,
Thanks...I did right click and there is nothing noted relative to the bits. Only what I retrived above. I wonder if it's 32 by default and 64 would be noted...who knows......
Thanks again for all your help.
Hi
For Xp, 32bit or 64bit
1. Click "Start"
2. Click on "Run"
3. In the "open" box, type " winmsd.exe" without "" then click OK
4. Look down the list and look at the System Type and Processor lines

Thanks -- it's pretty safe to say "if you don't know you are on 32 bit" <s>
Hi Quads,
That is very useful, thanks. I have seen it before but didn't know how to bring it up so easily, without using utilities.
Would it work for Vista?
For Vista 32bit or 64bit
1. Click start
2. In the Start Search box, type "system" without ''
3. In the programs list from that click on "System Infomation"
4. Select System Summary.
5. Look at the System Type

Good.
Thanks, Quads.
Hi CousinTone -
Please try the following -
Only, if you have NIS 2009 - if not let me know what product that you have and I will give you a different link.
Uninstall NIS 2009 using the Norton Removal Tool - Here is the link:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 Then reboot.
Next reinstall the latest version of NIS 2009 from this link:
http://www.symantec.com/redirects/norton/norton_com/nis09/
You will need your Product Key for the reinstall.
Once completed, report back here.
Thanks.
Here is the screen shot...........let me know.
Hi -
Did you try my procedure, above?
I am a bit confused here.
Rec'd the proceedure ... or should I say read the post, after I did the whole screen shot, photoshop, post since I was so excited that it finally came back up.
I'm going to run the remove and reinstall shortly and let you know.
Sorry for causing your confusion and possible headache...pain-aid tables from the first aid kit work best!!
CT
Hi -
I look forward to your response.
Hi
If that doesn't work, then I wonder, or I was wondering if it was in some way like the problem a couple of people had where the Installer kept wanting to run, but this time keeps wanting to restart.
