Corel Winzip System Utilities System Protector blocked by Norton

I recently installed Winzip System Utilities and the System Protector is being constantly blocked by Norton 360 when I look at the task settings it shows /unauthorised access blocked (access process data)  and the specific file C:/programfiles/winzip system utilities suite/winzipsssystemprotector.exe

I have tried to change the firewall settings to allow the software but nothing works to stop it

it is blocking it multiple times a second/minutes which I assume is slowing my system considerably

I think Norton is blocking it because it's trying to access Nortons data

any solutions?

I don't want to uninstall Corel Winzip because it's good software that I paid good money for

I am a newbie to this community so please excuse any lameness !!

thankyou that does explain it perhaps oneday Corel might update their software to stop it from attempting to read Norton

winzip is working fine so I will take your advice and let it be

thanks again

You're welcome.  Yes, if it isn't causing any problems, you can just ignore it.  There are a handful of other programs that get mentioned often in connection with Tamper Protection, so I guess we can add this component of Winzip to the list.

add it to the list

I did a speed test by scanning after turning off tamper protection it makes no difference

so the blocking is not slowing my PC down at all

I turned Tamper back on just to be secure

Almost all programs that are blocked by Tamper Protection simply go on about their business with no complaints, so letting Norton continue to block Winzip should not cause any problems at all.

thanks again for your help and wisdom

I have tried most anti-virus software over the years but I always keep coming back to Norton

this community makes me inclined to continue with Norton for years to come

if you're on a good thing stick to it (so they say)

I might not have anymore questions so I will fade off now into the australian sunset

cheers - colin.

Colin,

I gave upo WINAIP with much regret many years back (I htink I have V9 still) and use the free 7-zip program or the facility built into Windows 7 where you can right mouse click on a compressed file and select Extract to to unzip. There's a way to zip up too,.

But what I wanted to say is that I think Corel WINZIP has gone beyond the straight zip unzip utility and now that Suite includes security elements and they may be what Norton is objecting to.

So unless there is something in the WINZIP Suite that you really need ......

it's a utilities suite I paid for it has alot of practical functions such as updating drivers/ cleaning history junk files / registry cleaner / optimizer reg and hd / defrag / secure delete / file encryption / duplicate file remover

I know windows does some of this but I think it was value for money otherwise I would dump it

winzip used to annoy me years ago I almost didn't purchase it because of that name alone

the security is just malware and spyware/ trojans so I hope it compliments Norton like SuperAnti-Spyware and those other ones do as you know you don't run 2 anti-virus but you can run a stand-alone spyware/malware

colin,

Sorry about my typos in that message .....

I was just suggesting why it might be attracting the attention of Norton's security. You do have a number of those functions in Norton 360 also eg registry cleaning (which I recommend not using)  but I quite understand when one feels more at home with a given utility or its interface.

By all means keep and use the useful bits!

I'm glad to see you have had a detailed explanation as to what is happening and why.
