Corrupted Norton Ghost 2003 image

I see this is a common issue, but can't get past the following:

I have an image in two parts,  a 2GB .gho and a 1.6GB .ghs file.

I have tried launching ghostexp.exe from a Windows XP comand line with both -ignoreindex and -corrupt switches.

Explorer opens, asks for the spanned file then gives the following:

An NTFS partition is spanned over 2 segments of the image. Unless all segments are available at once, this may lead to excessive disk swapping. Do you wish to load this partition?

Selecting either YES or NO gives the following error message:

Corruption in image file, or media not present. Not all files are shown.

No files are displayed in explorer.

These files are critical -they are all of our working documents, stored in the image when I upgraded our small server setup (we're a charity).

Is there any way of retrieving the files from this image?

Any help is most welcome.

Could this problem be caused by copying the image files from a FAT32 disk to an NTFS disk?

Does anyone know of any software which can read the files or handle .gho / .ghs files. I have tried FTK but didn't have much success.
