It seems likely that this point has been made before, probably a thousand times, but I have not seen it.
I have just bought a new version of N. 360 and downloaded it to two computers. This was of course a bit of a nuisance. However doing that saved me about £30 instead of just renewing. Frankly it does seem a bit silly for a product to be advertised at £29.99 to download and be nearly £60 to simply renew. Have people really got so much money that they waste it by just renewing? I did it on principle.
While I am on I will say something else. The advice on the page telling me how to install on another machine, said that I should ensure that I ue the same activation code. Anyone who has actually done it will know very well that the advice is meaningless - there is no activation code to input, nor is there anywhere to insert it. Unless of course I have done something wrong, which is a bit unlikely because it works OK.

Hi,
The price differences are a continuing source of comment from both sides. Norton cannot undersell its partners so they usually have the higher cost. The minus of buying a new subscription [box] is that it doesn't retain the number of days left on your current subscription. The usual workaround for that is to wait until just a few days before the current subscription expires to 'renew' using the new key. It is not usually necessary to download and install the new copy in order to obtain and use the new key.
Once you have installed and activated the first copy the additional copies can get the new key from you MyNortonAccount if you are logged in to that account.
One additional point about downloading a new copy is that may not save your identity safe data in the process. If you use the online vault this isn't a problem as that data is secured on a Norton server.
Hope this helps
There is a simple solution. I never renew on-line because it is higher cost than buying off the shelf. We have periodic promotions with 360 on sale with rebates. My last purchase was Norton 360 v 5.0 and I was using v 6.0. Because of the older version, with sale price and rebates it cost $20 (15.8 Euro).
When my subscription runs out, in Norton 360 simply go to "account", "renew subscription", enter the key code from the box.
You won't have to go through the mess of re-installing.
Thatnk you for those replies. I do not totally understand them. After I first downloaded and installed the new copy, when I ran it the software was still giving the same expiration in 3 days message, i.e. the installation did not run properly. So I uninstalled it. I was asked whether I wanted to keep settings, so I chose to do that. Then I ran the downloader again and this time it worked fine, on both PCs. It is many years, and about 3 generations of computers ago, since I needed to enter an activation code. I thought they had done away with that, but now I realise that I am stored on a database, so thankls for that information.
