Could NIS be causing a weird browser message?

Recently, I've been getting this message in both Firefox and Chrome and would appreciate any ideas if it's related somehow to NIS 2011 settings:

                                                Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.googleadservices.

 

I can connect to some website but not some others.  This is aggravating and just came about recently.  Thank you for any help you can give me.  ec

Dick provided some good advice and I would like to offer another suggestion.

 

You might want to check this thread in the Firefox Support Forum.  I specifically would recommend the very last reply by Rvalntin which deals with checking entries in your host file.
