Can't find any prior threads which seems more likely due to my lack of competence than to no other interest in this topic.
This Critroni variant ransomware totally trashed one of my laptops (not protected by Symantec, btw, rather the competitor product supplied with the computer). From what I have read, this worm can travel across networks with mapped drives such as the one I am typing on that that does have the Comcast Symantec suite. Finally, to my questions:
1 - Despite reading all I can find, how do I confirm the computer infection has been removed?
2 - Will Symantec suite block infection by this threat?
3 - Again from what I have researched online, all of my data is hopelessly encrypted short of paying the ransom (which may or may not work anyway). I have tried every other recommendation I could find, all fail as they are almost exclusively shadow volume based and all such legacy data is wiped by the malware. I'm more than happy to try any other suggestions b4 I wipe and reload the drive to factory set.
thanx for any inputs, suggestions, recommendations to keep current backups, etc.
