My pc is on 24/7 more or less. I have a hardware firewall so I am not worried at all.
I've been wondering about this, too, whether NIS 2009 is more for users who have their computers on 24/7.
We turn off our computer when not in use. So, there is not much idle time that NIS 2009 seems to require.
So wondering if upgrading to NIS 2009 is worth it when my current subscription expires.
XP SP3
NIS 2008
IE 7
You can upgrade now. NIS 2009 is alot better then 2008. Are you behind a hardware firewall?
I’m on for 24/7 most of the time. Why shouldn’t NIS2009 be good for people who aren’t? idle time can be in other hours as well. Besides that You are always able to do some sort of full scan yourself
It is not recommended to be Connected 24/07 for Security Reasons - and it is not very green having your computer on 24/07.
If you are one of these people who are Connected 24/07, then I would recommend that you have LiveUpdate on Automatic; regarding N.I.S. 2009, have Idle Full System Scan with Norton A.LU. on and you should be okay.
With regard to a hard Firewall: I would only use one Firewall-at-a-time because conflicts can occur; already mentioned this to you, NY1989 in Previous Posts.
I'm usually on 24/7, except that the system is set to Sleep aftet 4 hrs non use. Use a high efficiency PS helps reduce power consumption and makes it a little more green.
I use both a hardware firewall that keeps my LAN safe from all the nasty things that are outside and use NIS firewall as added protection just in case there is anything that may be introduced unintentionally from within my LAN. Never had any problems.
Thanks Red. But I don’t think I asked about hard firewalls in this post. I remember getting that answered in previous posts
