I've been using a software program called Cypherix for many years. This excellent, and free software allows users to encrypt and password protect personal data on their computers. I've used it on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 with no problems. After upgrading two Windows 8 computers to 8.1, I had a BSOD on both upon opening Cypherix. Both computers also have Norton Security installed. I notified Cypherix Customer support about this problem. This was their response:
"After analyzing the issue, it has been discovered by our developers that
the problem has been caused by Norton's driver file SRTSP64.sys. This
driver does not support PNP disk.
Have you installed Norton Security/Norton Backup Security on your
system ?
- If yes, could you please disable/deactivate real time scanning. This will
temporary answer that will allow you to load the volume. Please note that
your data is safe."
I did as they suggested and temporarily disabled Norton's real time scanning when working with Cypherix. This worked, eliminating the BSOD, and allowing me to continue to use this wonderful software.
Cypherix asked me to report this to Norton Tech support. I'm hoping someone from support sees this and, hopefully, attempts to correct this problem.
