Dark web notice - related to company I never heard of

How can my data get onto the dark web by a company I have never heard of? The offending company is a high end eyeglass company I have never heard of but was told by Norton - they were the source of getting my data onto the hated dark web.
How is it possible for an eyeglasses company to leak my account data when I have never of the company.

I signed up for the Norton Privacy Monitor Assistant after receiving this very dark web notice. The suggested solution to change your password obviously doesn't help when you never had a logon for that site to begin with.  Further to Permalink's suggestion to read privacy policies, I suppose I'm just out of luck for a resolution to this dark web appearance of my e-mail and home address?

You don't necessarily have to deal directly with a company to have your information shared with that company by a company that you are dealing with. You need to read the privacy policies and information on what data a company might share with others. Then that company that the data was shared with might have had a data breach that would then get that information on the dark web.
